Michigan Lottery

A Michigan man who has stuck to the same lottery-playing routine for the past 30 years had his habits finally pay off when he won a $167,407 jackpot.

"I have been buying a seven-draw Fantasy 5 ticket at the same store every Monday for 30 years," said the lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous. "When I checked the numbers the morning after the drawing and saw they matched the numbers on my ticket, I was elated."

The 58-year-old player bought his winning ticket at Campbell's Party Store, located at 3321 North Campbell Road in Royal Oak. He matched match the Fantasy 5 numbers drawn on May 4 — 1, 11, 19, 24, and 36 — to win the jackpot.

Although he followed the same routine for 30 years, the numbers he played were not always the same. He won on a ticket with five Easy Picks (random numbers chosen by the lottery terminal).

"I had some unexpected expenses over the past few years, so this will really help rebuild my savings," said the player. "It's a really nice chunk of change!"

The player visited Lottery headquarters Tuesday to claim the big prize. With his winnings, the player plans to complete some home renovations and then save the remainder.

Each Fantasy 5 play is only $1. For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly. For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the nightly Double Play drawing.

Michigan lottery players can play Fantasy 5 from the comfort of their homes by buying Michigan Lottery Fantasy 5 tickets online. In fact, several other games are available to play online from the Michigan Lottery, including Lotto 47, Powerball, and Mega Millions.

Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot that starts at $100,000. Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. Tonight's Fantasy 5 jackpot is $100,000.

If he played $35 each week for 30 years, he spent almost $55,000. That's just for this game. I wonder how much he spends on other games like Mega, PB, MI Lotto and scratch offs.

After a win like this and all he has spent, it could be that he just broke even.

Anyway....Nice hit.

Congratulations to this lucky winner!

Did Scott Bowen the Michigan Lottery CEO hand him his check?

I would agree with the winner that $167,407.00 comes in handy for paying bills.

Easy pick as Michigan calls Quick Pick seems to be the way to go.  So happy for him!

I wonder how much he'd have if he invested $35 a week in stocks for the last 30 years? A helleva lot more than $56,000.

Sounds like he raided his saving account, and this windfall will enable him to put some if not all of it back. I threw in an extra $5 towards our State jackpot. That puppy sits at a drooling $28 mil, before taxes, and you won’t hear me complain if l banked those Benjamins. It is the low hanging fruit that can turn out to be the answer. When you wish upon a star..Approve

no reason to stay anonymous for that paltry sum. no one would bother him.  a couple of dozen people hit this cash 5 bet every day 365 days a year all around the country and canada. not a remarkable feat by any means. someone in ma hit one 6 times the other night.

Imagine someone who spends $100 a week.....for 30 years, and never wins anything over $100 here and there. They would have spent more than what this guy just recently won.

Yup, Needham, Massachusetts had a winner 6X on Mass Cash.  I believe that translates to around $70K ticket.  Not too shabby.  Just waiting for me or my Lottery Post whom I sent a Season ticket to get the big winner on that or our MegaBucks Doubler tickets.  Sadly this is the last year playing their Subscription service with them privatizing it and sharp increase in cost to out-of-stater players.

When you scroll down to the last comment and you see Page 1of1 then the left and right arrows to cycle through the pages I just noticed that this looks like a sad face. The arrows are eyes and then there's a curved line that looks like a mouth. Ive been drinking so maybe Im just imagining it. If so disregard my post and keep fighting the good fight( win them dollars)

At least you don't have to travel to Dorchester to get your Mass Cash winnings anymore.

Too bad they closed the Natick, MA office, that would have been convenient to folks in that part of the state.  The six offices aren't remotely close to my hometown of Holliston.

Keep on winning billybucks!

you are sort of in the middle between woburn, worcester, braintee and dorchester. i know holliston well. tough town to drive out of in any direction. now i can go to worcester to cash the next time 11 miles away.  it's been a while since i hit those but do not miss a drawing and play 2.00 ones now. 134k after taxes.

Kind of disturbing when you think of it. Now that you've broken it down like this. Wish there was a way we could win sooner.

Several years ago when Michigan Lottery used to allow lottery players to post their own stories to the Michigan Lottery website regarding Jackpot winners, it seemed like many Jackpot winning tickets were in fact Easy Picks (EP); Fantasy Five Game in general. Few Jackpot winners were non Easy Pick tickets.

Now the website, from what I've seen on my mobile device just gives a very brief comment on recent winners on the games offered for play Not stories like here on LP.

Interestingly enough, the MI5/39 Easy Pick winners tickets were all purchased at different time intervals, and in different cities as well.

Just goes to show how powerful the Random Number Generator (RNG) is.
