One lottery ticket sold in California wins $530 million Mega Millions jackpot

Mega Millions

Somebody in California just added half a billion dollars to their bank account.

A single ticket, sold in San Diego, claimed Friday night's $530 million Mega Millions jackpot. That comes with a cash option payout of $345.2 million, according to contest officials.

The winning numbers were 17, 19, 27, 40, and 68, with Mega Ball number 2. The Megaplier was 3.

The winning ticket was sold at Sorrento Deli Mart, located a short walk from the famous Torrey Pines Golf Course.

Even if you didn't win the big prize, there were three tickets — in California, Arizona and Washington — that matched all five white balls to claim $1 million each. (The California second-prize winner won $1,143,154, since California is the only state to award all prizes using a pari-mutuel formula.)

There was no winner of the $444 million jackpot up for grabs in the last drawing, so the Friday prize rose to an estimated $530 million — the seventh-largest in the game's history.

It is the 15th-largest jackpot overall in U.S. lottery history. (See top 25 list below.)

The $530 million prize is the largest claimed in the game since October 2018, when someone in South Carolina anonymously claimed a record $1.5 billion jackpot.

Winners must match all five numbers plus the Mega Ball to take home the big prize.

The next drawing will be June 11 at 11 p.m. for the game's starting $40 million prize.

For the lowest prize of $2, players must match the Mega Ball number.

The winner could be a United States Sailor USN.  Maybe the full crew of a ship played together and won.

There's a good chance it was a work pool. The liquor store where it was purchased is in an industrial/commercial area with a lot of tech, bio and medical companies nearby.

I Agree! cottoneyedjoe.  I am hoping that these winners will become outstanding investors. Investing in the Stock Exchange, Real Estate, or anything they know a lot about.

Diversifying their investments. Not putting all their eggs into their company stock.

Congrats to the winner / winners.

This short thread alone has plenty of reasons to remain anonymous if possible.

I know, can't do it in California so far, but never say never.

Way too early to speculate on any of this and considering the fact the lottery office in San Diego is closed for the weekend they couldn't cash in if they wanted to.  Personally wish it were a group of Sailors.  I remember being stationed in DC donkey's years ago (Lotto America) when a fellow Soldier won $5 milliion who was stationed next door @ the Pentagon.  Back then the Army didn't want to release him.  Not sure if they did.  Usually they do though.

I see your Director resigned effectively immediately from that bar scandal....LOL
