PowerballPowerball: NC man ignored million-dollar winning ticket on his table for weeksRating:

A North Carolina man was a millionaire, only he didn't know it.

That's because the man who won $1 million playing Powerball left the winning ticket unattended for weeks, the South Carolina Education Lottery said in a news release.

"I have a bad habit of waiting to check my lottery tickets," said the man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, according to the news release.

After weeks of ignoring the ticket that sat on his dining room table, the man said he was stunned and his wife was speechless when they finally checked the numbers, SC Lottery officials said.

The North Carolina resident bought the winning ticket for the June 8 Powerball drawing at a Nanba in Bennettsville, according to the news release.

That is close to the state line between North Carolina and South Carolina, about 100 miles from Columbia and 90 miles from Charlotte.

The first five white numbers on his ticket matched the drawing of 9, 13, 42, 48, 60, according to the news release. The winning red Powerball number was 18.

South Carolina Lottery officials said the odds of hitting a $1 million jackpot are 1-in-11,688,054.

South Carolina is one of just a few states — along with Delaware, Kansas, Georgia, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and Texas — that allow lottery winners to remain anonymous.

Sorry, but that's a bit of a stretch, for me. That's like being stranded on an island with a gorgeous babe or strikingly handsome guy for weeks & you simply ignoring each other. You too afraid to strike up a conversation.Better yet, you going to go to the far side of the island to avoid contact at all costs.

    Yeah, right!

Very intelligent of this N.C. player to buy it in S.C.  "All's well that ends well". Shakespeare.

        Yeah, right!

The headline should be he ignored a ticket for weeks that turned out to be a million dollar prize and your scenario nailed it. I suppose if he lives close to SC buying the ticket there is a good idea, but considering the ticket sat "unattended for weeks" "on the dinning room table", I'm betting there was another reason why he bought the ticket in SC.

So the key to winning is to buy a ticket and toss it somewhere, gotcha! Next time i'll throw my tickets in the closet.

I agree, his house is probably a thorough mess making navigation a main priority otherwise he would have noticed his lottery tickets piling on the dining room table.

It's not a big deal to lose a ticket in North/South Carolina, it's way too easy to win.

The man ignored the winning ticket for weeks. Eventually the deadline to claim it passed.
