Players have a chance to win more in Pick 3 this month

By Kate Northrop

The New Jersey Lottery is kicking off the new year with additional Pick 3 drawings and more chances to win in the special Green Ball promotion.

Over the course of the next month, New Jersey lottery players will have the opportunity to participate in free extra Pick 3 drawings.

The Green Ball promotion is an extra nightly drawing with results that impact how often players win bonus prizes throughout the promotional period.

Running from January 5 through February 1, the Lottery conducts a separate drawing from a designated Green Ball draw machine after the evening Pick 3 drawing concludes. The drum holds six white balls and one Green Ball.

If a white ball is drawn, the ball is removed from the machine, and the Green Ball drawing takes place again the following night, this time with one less white ball. This continues for every nightly Pick 3 drawing until the Green Ball is drawn.

Once the Green Ball is drawn, the regular Pick 3 drawing machine is reset, and a second combination is drawn from the drum again to give players another free chance to win with the same numbers. It functions similarly to the Powerball Double Play option, in which players for that night's drawing receive another chance to match their numbers to the new numbers drawn from the second Green Ball Pick 3 promotional drawing.

All six white balls and the one Green Ball are returned to their respective drawing machine for the following draw once the Green Ball is drawn, and the process starts from the beginning the next night.

The last time the Green Ball drawing was offered was in May 2025 for Pick 3.

Pick 3 drawings take place twice a day at 12:59 p.m. and at 10:57 p.m. EST. The winning numbers, jackpot, and prize amounts can be found on Lottery Post's New Jersey Lottery Results page.

Great idea with the green ball AND no RNG!

They do the same thing here only with a red ball.

Currently we have the paper wasting and clerk annoying bonus.

It's called "straight back" where if you make a straight bet on the 3 or 4 and the numbers match backwards you get $1000 on the 4 and $100 on the 3.

Straight bets are the only ones eligible so if you want to do a wheeled bet you have to fill out up to 24 play slips and mark them all straight and get 24 tickets instead of making one slip "wheel" and getting one ticket... paper wasting... clerk annoying.

With all the other states lotteries doing things to go green our state does idiotic things like this.

The Plaza casino in Las Vegas (then the Union Plaza) increased their Keno revenue in a very simple way, players could fill out a Keno slip and choose Red game Green game, one set of numbers for two games and double the wager.

One thing I miss here in KY is dollar off option.   Say you bought it and 976 came in and you had 975 or 974, you'd still win the $600.   As previously mentioned via FB messenger 'they' informed me that it was discontinued due to unpopularity.   Sure, and I have a bridge for sale too.

Currently they have a promotion buy $10 Mega Millions @ retail only and get a 'naked' Powerball ticket worth $2 for free.  The asterisk comment says ends Feb 5th or if MM reaches $300 million.   That's obviously not going to happen.   And yes, I'm doing this despite no PP/DP options.   Can't look @ gift horse in the mouth!

That's a good deal... Pay 4 two MM and get one pb tho' kinda petty not to include the PP considering your paying for a builtin megaplier with the purchase of the MMs .

But I don't think it's a good idea to 'pick your own nose'!  Was that pertinent to the subject at hand???? I rather not think so but that's one persons opinion.

Have a shaggy day
