Lottery millionaire resorts to home burglary for a fraction of his fortune
By Kate Northrop
LEXINGTON, Ky. — $167.3 million Powerball jackpot winner Shannon James Farthing was arrested a third time since his lottery win, this time on burglary charges that involved stealing $12,000 from someone's home — a fraction of his fortune.
The Kentucky lottery winner who scooped a $167 million Powerball jackpot last year has been arrested for the third time since his win.
Arrest documents filed by the Lexington Police Department say that the 51-year-old was captured on security cameras allegedly entering a residence through a side door on Kenesaw Drive in Lexington at 7:16 p.m. on Saturday, March 28.
The owner of the home saw Farthing entering the building on her camera feed and heard a "loud noise" that sounded as if the door had been "busted open." She later reported to police that $12,000 had been stolen from where she had stored it in her back bedroom.
The arrest record goes on to say that he left the property in a black Porsche before police were able to find him at the scene. At around 9:00 p.m., they located the suspect vehicle in the Red Mile Gaming parking lot and found him inside the casino, about a 20-minute drive from where the burglary took place.
Authorities arrested Farthing "without incident" and additionally found marijuana and marijuana blunts in the ashtray upon conducting a search of his vehicle. He was charged with one count of Burglary in the 2nd Degree and one charge of Possession of Marijuana.
Court records show that Farthing's mother posted bond for him on Sunday, and he appeared in court on Monday with his attorney, telling reporters on-site that he had "no comment."
Earlier this month, Farthing pleaded guilty to a case involving punching a Florida beach resort customer and kicking an officer in the face in the days following his prize claim. The plea was part of a deal that required him to pay $1,000 in fines to spare him additional jail time, WKYT said.
He also has a court visit scheduled for his second arrest on April 2, which relates to a separate incident in which he allegedly intimidated a woman after pressuring her to take "a gummy." He has other active cases, including a hit-and-run charge.
His next court date for the most recent slew of charges is set for April 27.

Wild!......
Just goes to show that money can't fix stupid
The criminal justice system is just an inconvenience to vermin like this. Lucky for him he has enough F.U. money and can buy his way out.
i'd like tucker black to calculate the probability that this guy invested any part of his f.u. money to make it last a while, and the probability that he even has $1 million of it left. i believe both numbers are hovering close to zero.
Derp derp derp, Lmbo, the man is a menace.
How did he know the money was there?
There is more to this story....
Congrats!
This guy has a death wish. Incredibly sad!
Maybe they should also investigate the Powerball win. You know he cheated.
I refuse to believe Eddie Tipton is the only lottery cheat out there.
I knew this redneck was gonna be a constant source of entertainment when he showed up in my backyard (St Pete Beach) 2 days after winning and assaulted a police officer. Kate, maybe you should see if he'll hire you to write his memoirs ala Abraham Shakespeare- he deserves to be under the slab of a house. Gotta get his first name right first though...it's Shannon.
I didn't know he did that!
Thanks!
jj, So many times you've told us how easy plot is to win that it's surprising you're saying he cheated.
*The guy should take a page from history & stay somewhat permanently indoors. If he needs stuff, call it in, after all, the nation did it during the pandemic. If anyone fingers him for criminal behavior, he would have a alibi. Then he could say...
* looks like some folks didn't like " dances with wolves "
🤨
Didn't watch it. I did however watch a documentary about Chief Red Cloud. He made some famous quotes about criminals.
Well, well, well, it's said that money amplifies character.
The guy is just being who he's always been, only difference is this time he ain't broke 😁
If I win the Wednesday jackpot, cops, media, and drama would be on very different lanes 🤣🤣
I believe that most people with money have no character.
Just look at how the rich are messing up the world today!
Even during the Roman Empire, the rich were throwing people to the lions!
Most people with money never had character in the first place.
If I want to look for character, i'll look among the humble, the ascetics, and the churches.
Rarely will you find wealth and character in the same place.
Did he meet with an unreliable gummy distributor recently ? ..Asking for a friend
You got
and won $167 Mill in the PB and you're gonna break into someone's house to steal $12,000?
And your getaway car is a black Porsche. Yeah, that shouldn't be too hard to spot.
Some places, you break into someone's house you get turned into
Sounds like you got lucky twice.

And yes, you DID pass the audition for an episode of World's Dumbest Criminals.

Id venture to guess that Shannon Farthing neglected to prepare and consume a liverwurst sandwich on ...... with wxy and z and one side of sweet potato chips and another of three gherkin pickles before his latest stupid criminal escapade.
And surely he wouldn't have done it had he had a creme soda or sasparilla or birch beer or moxie ...... but he sure had a lot of moxie to act out on his malevolent urges
P.U.: What stinx in here?!
Have a shaggy day!
ShagE3
Megamillions - free until jackpot reaches 350- 500 mil
Powerball-free till jp reaches 250 mil.
G'day
that would definitely take the "h" out of his last name.
This guy is a HABITUAL CRIMINAL .
Keep in mind that Mom got some of that money. After he blows his wadd, he will start stealing from dear Mom.
You are right. Eddie Tipton is just the one that got caught for now.
That's not going to help him either. I didn't do nothin' actually means I did something.
Hes got MAJOR issues. Probably babyied too much by his mom. Poor woman. What an EMBARRASSMENT!
Probably cuz he blew HIS big winnings
Poor mom......sorta reminds me of 10 years ago with Marie Holmes from NC, for those that recall

Bailing out her BF who was called "Hot Sauce", on 3 different times.
😂💀 smh
Lotterologist, Odd for you to say that about people with money while posting on a site where people are trying to figure out how to win a lottery and win millions or multi millions. Re: character, some sage said it is the way you treat other people that you know that they can't do a thing for you.
I'm trying to win millions myself! I hope to one day win the lottery.
really honest people like us cant even win dirtbag wins been in jail
This guy might be another Jack Whittaker.
Hope he don't be another lottery statistic. He needs to chill and go enjoy his money
Knew it 🤦🏽♂️
What is it about Lexington and Ashland KY winners? The latter being David Edwards. All those millions wasted and living in squalor in a storage shed? Oh the local media showed him on the news conference saying he promised to God he has changed his ways. Sadly he did not.
Haven't come to a conclusion on this joker yet.
So why did you say most people with money have no character
It's safe to say, he's a bit off balance.
Reminds me of the Michigan lottery jackpot winner who murdered his granddaughter's landlord.
I understand why winning an enormous amount of money won't stop you from abusing drugs or getting into fights because simply having money doesn't solve the underlying problems.
Stealing what is now a trivial amount of money, OTOH, makes zero sense. This would be much easier to understand if he and the victim have some kind of past connection and simply getting a few bucks wasn't the actual motive.
Way to represent Kentucky, Shannon. 🤦♂️
It is not it surprising that he felt entitled to money that someone else had, regardless of his own wealth or drug or other issues. Grifters gotta grift. If someone resents you for what you have or own, common sense flies out the window.
Because of the EVIL they do with what they have.
When you sift through the lies and propaganda of the corporate owned news media, controlled by the rich, you have to get your news elsewhere or read bewtween the lines to see the ugly truth.
As far as this case goes, I wouldn't be surprised if he broke in to steal his own money. Most people don't have $12,000.00 lying around in the house.
She probably reneged on some agreement they made and tried to hold on to his money and he decided to break into her house to take it back.
Rich crooks control the media and try to tell people what to think, when to think, and how to think, thus BRAINWASHING and INFLUENCING their thoughts and values (or lack thereof).
There is absolutely ZERO CHARACTER in doing that!
if she reneged on an agreement, why wouldn't he just let the police handle it? unless it was an agreement involving illegal activities. hmm...
Criminals don't think logically...they think emotionally. He was probably angry with her for reneging on their agreement and not returning his money, so he decided to take the law into his own hands.
That's why you often hear about journalists being murdered.
The rich criminals don't want the TRUTH to get out.
Mr. Brock Lee, your in box is full.
"Behind every great fortune there is a crime." ---- Honoré de Balzac
that's nice, but he lived during the 1800's in france and had no conception of modern lotteries. fun fact, but only 5% of homes in france even had indoor plumbing up until around the 1950s. when you quote a famous person in an attempt to sound smart, you have to understand the limitations of that person's knowledge of the world.
I didn't quote Honoré de Balzac to "sound smart"...I quoted him to support my assertion.
Anyone of average intelligence could see that.
He made the same observation...that where there is great wealth, there is no character.
Time doesn't change that obvious, blatant fact.
the lottery is both legal and voluntary, so the quote doesn't apply and can't support your argument. why do you post on a lottery forum if you are opposed to the idea of someone winning enough money to become rich?
I wasn't referring to the lottery...I was talking about life in general.
Great wealth and character rarely exist in the same place.
I'm not "opposed" to winning the lottery...that's why i'm here.
To learn ways to improve my lottery play.
Then you get judgmental hypocrites pointing their finger at others, while supporting the biggest criminals in the world, saying that people criticize the rich because of "jealousy".
We're not "jealous of their possessions"...we're DISGUSTED by their EVIL!!!!
Not everyone is fooled by the corporate owned news media.
I think he was stealing his own money. He looks like the kind of guy who loves women who love money. They probably had some agreement which she reneged on but didn't give him back his money, so he decided to break into her house to get it back.
LOOK IP, EPSTEIN IN 2008 won powerball!
False. Learn to do a deep dive. If I created a trust with that name, it would not make it Epstein related.
Legally, one can choose any name for a trust and it does not have to be an unique name. The next 1000 jp winners could use the same trust name. It is meaningless.
The mandate for the Cosmos is the manifestation of all possible states of Existences. Shannon James Farthing is the unique permutation that resolves the character he manifests.
This guy is obviously not even in the same league as Eddie Tipton.
He doesn't come across as that nor deserve credit for that.
And I'm sure the lottery authorities always do their due diligence before paying out.
what he wins 167 million but robs house for 12 k
what am I missing here did he blow all that money away already I like to find out what an idiot
Farthing split Kentucky's record $167.3 million Powerball jackpot with his mother, Linda Grizzle, back in August 2024, claiming it on April 28, 2025. His first arrest came just a day later in Florida for battery and resisting after a resort fight, which he recently pleaded guilty to. Second was a Fayette County hit-and-run still pending, and now this third bust on Saturday for busting into a Lexington home on camera, grabbing $12k cash, then peeling out in a black Porsche while packing weed. With prior convictions that label him a career offender, it's a classic case of sudden wealth not fixing deep-rooted habits, making you wonder whether anonymity trusts could have kept him out of the spotlight.
The programming for Farthing does not contain an algorithm that the conduct could be fixed with wealth or it would have prevented the conduct at issue from manifestation.
