Litchfield, Conecticut resident James Lynch beat the odds when he became $2.6 million richer, winning the states Classic Lottery jackpot on April 13.

Lynch, of South Street, is a battalion chief with the Waterbury Fire Department. According to his co-workers, Lynch is still employed by the department. Area residents say Lynch and his wife Jacquelyn have children within the public school system.

Approached about the prize Monday night, Lynch said he had "no comment."

Classic lottery tickets can be purchased for $1 at 2,800 lottery retailers across the state. Players choose six different numbers from one to 44.

Lynchs chances of winning the jackpot were one in 7,059,052.

Players have 60 days from the time a claim is presented at lottery headquarters to decide whether to choose your prize as an annuity or as a lump sum payment. Annuity allows all prize money paid in equal installments over 21 years and lump sum provides the prize money all at once.

The Connecticut Lottery is required to withhold 25 percent of each cash price worth more than $5,000 for federal taxes.

Lynch has one year to redeem his prize.

CASH Only

Connecticut Classic Lotto hasn't grown much lately. Maybe it's time CT switched to "Hot Lotto".

perhaps, but i think CT wants an in-state game that produces millionaires.  one thing that CT could do is switch from a 20 year annuity to a 30 year annuity.  then the same cash amount can get more money for the annuity value.

Dr EW:

Connecticut Lotto usually increases 100k-200k per rollover. Months often pass between jackpot winners (although not lately).

I say CT join Hot Lotto, which has a better chance of winning $2 (Hot Ball) than matching 3-of-6 in          CT Lotto. At the same time, lengthen the annuity from 25 payments to 30, and change the 5/39          matrix to 5/42 while keeping the number of Hot Balls at 19.

Now if we can only get Cash Only to admit that Hot Lotto is a dud.

Chas:

Hot Lotto is increasing its jackpot faster than ever now that DC is playing.        Don't forget North Dakota has yet to join.

Wow, I'm impressed. The North Dakota Lottery. The wilderness with more deer than people. They don't get any bigger than this. The  " News ' thread "North Dakota Lottery a model of efficiency " posted March 29th list a total staff of six employees, including the director. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has road crews bigger than that! One forman, two flagman, and six guys leaning on shovels.

I love to rib Cash Only,

Chas
