Gone With the Water
October, 2004, This article in National Geographic Magazine described just what happened to New Orleans as a scenario for the next hurricane to hit. Here's the link: http://www3.nationalgeographic.com/ngm/0410/feature5/...

Of passing interest
I hung out for a while in one of the local casinos a few days ago to see whether any of the number theory stuff applied in that sort of environment. I spent a couple of hours on Roulette, then about the same length of time on Keno. Nothing conclusive, but if you have a casino nearby you...

you're being used Mrs. Sheehan
I've followed the media coverage of Mrs. Sheehan for the past month or so, and I keep asking myself , is this a mother whom is grieving, or has she gotten caught up in all the glamour and glitz from the crazies of the liberal fractions? I for one can feel your pain and anguish over the loss of your son. You should be proud of what your son was tryi...

Anasazi - some background material
I promised in an earlier blog entry to re-visit the subject of those ancients in New Mexico. This is a long and somewhat tedious piece of a manuscript I began several years ago. I never finished it, so I'll share it with you if you're interested: Visits to Chaco Canyon and other ancient ruins a...

Feng Shui... Does it actually work?
I decided to re-arrange my room today... not for any particular reason other than I thought I needed a change. I usually change everything up about once a year just for aesthetics, but I decided today to try the principles of Feng Shui and see if it seems to work. Nothing yet. Seems like I'm more tired now with the new arrangement than I was with the old one. I thought it was supposed to improve your mood, help you get more energy, and the like... I'm now more tire...

Knowing which way the wind blows
You don't need one of these. But I like making them anyway.... confuses the opposition. Strollers on that dirt road yonder stop and stare, shake their heads, walk a bit further turn around and shake their heads again when there's a new one. Those PB numbers, MM numbers didn't look half bad the last draws....

Clear-headed thinking
I read somewhere about fifty years ago that you can tell the exact moment of dawn by holding a white thread at arms length and when you're able to distinguish whether the thread is black or white, it's dawn. I've always intended to try that sometime. But I've never been able to make it a priority enough to remember to do it. Can't think of a single reason, that time of the morning, to want to know the exact moment of dawn. You can get a fair bea...

Deep Throat = Deeply Troubling
Finally it's been revealed who Deep Throat was the #2 guy in the FBI at the time. I think a lot of people are very surprised about that, since the conventional wisdom was that it was a politician of some type, not someone within such an important law enforcement role. I could totally understand political back-stabbing that would lead to blabbing about something that would bring down a President but the #2 law enforcer in the USA? T...

Die-Hard Lottery Pool
On December 24th, 2004, I selected my most loyal players and started another Lottery Pool. This one is slightly different. There are eight of us, and we put in $10.00 a month. It's always due by the 15th, since we all get paid on the 15th. This club started out as the Texas Two-Step Club, and we won a lot of money th...
