Reinstate gadgets on Windows 8!
I have always liked the concept of gadgets in Windows, delivering whatever real-time information you like right on your Windows desktop. In fact, I like gadgets so much that a few years ago I developed the Lottery Results Gadget , which has been installed by people around the world hundreds of thousands of times , and is still running strong today. Now Windows 8 is upon us, and Microsoft has ditched gadgets in fav...

RAM checking software
Computer was having some hiccups so decided to try this test, link given by Kim Komando in one of her newsletters. It was easiest for me to run on a floppy, went into its diagnostic booting up, interesting to watch it go through its test which you can pause, exit, etc. Long story short my power supply was the culprit not flaky RAM. Windows Memory Diagnostic The Windows Memory Diagnostic tests the Random Access Memory (RAM) on your computer for errors. The...

New Free Abuse
The New Free Over Abused word is 'MY'. There is an escalation in the tagging of 'MY' to anything. I think it started with the Microsoft labeling of some desktop items like 'MY documents', 'MY computer' and 'MY network places'. It seemed innocent enough as long as it stayed there, not too bad to deal with. However, it's cropping up in other places. Watch for it. Pretty soon it will be as sickening to hear and say as 'American Idol', A. K. A. the New and Improved 'Star Search'....

My new blog for technical articles
From Todd A.K.A. Speednet I want to post a brief intro to my new Blog, which I will be using to post technical articles about Microsoft development (such as ASP.NET, .NET in general, VB, C#, SQL Server), as well as other general technology-related topics. The reason I created this Blog was to keep my technology articles separate from all the personal stuff I like to post also. I figure that someone who came here looking for development info doesn't wa...

Article published today
I had my first article published this morning at DotNetSlackers , an excellent community site for Microsoft .NET developers. As I go through the very long process of re-programming this entire site using Microsoft's ASP.NET 2.0 technology (and other .NET technologies), there are lots of unique challenges created, just by the nature...

Helicopter Problem
A helicopter was flying around above Seattle yesterday when an electrical malfunction disabled all of the aircraft's electronic navigation and communications equipment. Due to the clouds and haze, the pilot could not determine the helicopter's position and course to steer to the airport. The pilot saw a tall building, flew toward it, circled, drew a handwritten sign, and held it in the helicopter's window. The pilot's sign said WHERE AM I? in large letters....
