"What If Lotteries Were Made Illegal"
Once the door was opened to create extra revenue for states, there is no looking back. Those making the public outcry will be crying even louder when they find out they will be taxed at a higher rate to make up for the lost revenues. And just like during Prohibition when the profits went to organized crime, so would the gambling profits.

Proposed Buffett Rule and How It Would Apply to Some Lottery Winners Who Invest
I won't dissect this point by point, but nearly every problem you've described can be traced back to some direct or indirect consequence of one gov't program or other.
Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams have done many columns on what life was like before and after various programs were passed to help people -- Prohibition, Minimum wage (Davis-Bacon), War on Poverty, school subsidies, etc. There has been no problem so bad that the gov't couldn't get involved in ... and make worse.

If you are Illegal and play lottery shouldn't they learn the rules on collection
I'm more pissed off at people who HIRE them for cheap labor instead of hiring a tax paying citizen who actually needs a job. The last of my concerns is whether an illegal alien is going to win something with huge odds as the lottery. I'm more concerned with illegal aliens and crime or illegal aliens and cheap labor. BTW a lot of bad English in this thread. Just an observation.

Should illegal immigrants be able to claim lottery prizes?
That's not true. There are absolutely no residency requirements for playing the lottery. Anyone can play, regardless of their country of origin. Crossing the border illegally is a crime, but buying a lottery ticket in the USA after illegally crossing the border is not. Just like buying a cup of coffee is not. There's no linkage. You might not personally like it (and I am not specifying MY opinion on the matter), but those are the facts.

Tennessee lottery
I wonder if they are going to make people on TN Care pay up , too? Pay for their past medical expenses. This state is just getting whackier by the day. I still don't agree with gun law. Until I see a serious drop in the crime rate, this to me is just another goofy law which encourages people to be legal vigilantes.

US Run Lottery
Todd's right. All winnings would end up being redistributed, and I'm sure the illegals would be second in line for the winnings, right behind the manipulative politicians. Remember, it's not the right to property, but the pursuit of happiness.....and that, well, I'm not sure even a millionaire can afford the lawyers! That's all I'll say 'cause Big Brother may accuse me of some hate crime.

Dateline NBC, Sunday May 3, Lottery clerks Who Cheat Players
The thieving clerks got off with a slap on the wrists. If they had made the punishment fit the crime you would see a lot less of this stuff happening.Sign those tickets and the clerks won't bother trying to steal the big tickets and probably not the smaller tickets either.

I expect it will be as much warning as sending somebody to jail for any other crime. A few dishonest clerks will think they can get away with it, and odds are they'll be right.

Taking lotto slips is a criminal act?
I guess that I committed a crime too. Because I am always taking a handful of slips from the store. The owner of the store see me and never say anything. One day he told me that he like it when I use the slips and wished that more people would use slips, because it would make his job easier.
