Another Gamble for Online Betting
Legal wrangling in the U.S. is clouding the prospects for the industry world-wide Two recent arrests of online-gambling executives in the U.S. are drawing attention to a spirited but so far unsuccessful effort in Washington to clarify the legal status of Internet gambling and resolve the political and legal issues of regulating it. Earlier this month, Peter Dicks, at the time nonexecutive chairman of Sportingbet PLC, Britain's largest publicly traded Internet-gambling company, was arrested

Mississippi Lottery passes $2 billion in gross sales
Played their lottery in Biloxi finally. Noticed they just added Double play to Powerball. A letter was mailed to them to compliment on them getting a lottery because they did not rush into it and memory says they thoroughly researched other lotteries before starting. Mentioned before, I think about WDRB interviewing me a year ago November regarding sports betting in Kentucky. I don't do that but mentioned folks will just go to neighboring states to bet. It did not pass, then suddenly it went

Court finds that skill games are legal in Pennsylvania
The last paragraph about SUMS it...more money for the state coffers if that goes through. Not sure if this is the same thing, we had 'grey' slot machines in some small businesses and just recently outlawed for good, however there are still ads for some kind of slot machines in Louisville but very limited hours. The voters got their wish for sports betting here. I'm too dumb to understand it and don't want to bother folks playing on the machines. The state adds 9% for the machines and wh

California woman who overcame homelessness wins $5 million lottery prize
My favorite kind of story...rags to riches feel good story. Memory says some guy I think in Illinois was still homeless when he won buckets of money on a lottery ticket. OTOH Massachusetts getting closer to having on-line lottery sales. They just passed on-line sports betting. Funny the article had the same argument used here in KY that it would hurt brick and mortar stores. This has been disproven. My goodness, my Puritan minded homestate coming out of 1620 mentality. Happy De

IGT prevails in DOJ lawsuit; Wire Act only applies to sports betting
So we basically get confirmation for we already know. The Court declares that, as to the parties now before it, the Wire Act applies only to 'bets or wagers on any sporting event or contest.' the Wire Act applies narrowly to sports betting and does not apply to poker, lottery or other forms of online gambling . It is still completely legal to play the lottery across state lines online and offline.

Michigan Lottery celebrates 50th Anniversary with release of $50 scratch-off ticket
It seems interesting that your pick 3 and pick 4 are drawn four times/day EXCEPT Sundays. Guess that's to appease certain folks? Anyway LP says you guys still have Mechanical Ball Drawings. Ours changed to crappy RNG and you should see the LOW payouts--especially pick four. We have a similar problem with the Legislature not voting for sports betting again last session. I think KY has six 'gaming' sites, and like stack47 and myself say, the machines look and act just like regular slot machines

By Kate Northrop The New Hampshire Lottery has prevailed against the US Department of Justice when a federal court ruled Wednesday that the Wire Act does not apply to lotteries, cementing the legality of participating in the state lottery over the Internet. In August of 2019, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) filed a notice of appeal following the decision by the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire to find in favor of the New Hampshire Lottery in the long-awaite

Despite predictions, state lottery ticket sales have not been hurt by casinos
For years, Rajesh Keshar heard the concerns of his fellow owners of corner stores in Everett, Massachusetts, about what the Encore Boston Harbor casino might do to their lottery sales. They worried that some customers would shift their spending from scratch tickets and numbers games to slot machines and gaming tables. Everybody was talking bad about it, said Keshar, who runs Elm Street Market, about 2.5 miles from the massive casino, which opened in June. I was thinking positive. Because I k

Appeal almost inevitable in Wire Act reinterpretation case, expert says
Big changes could be on the horizon for the gaming industry if the January reinterpretation of the federal Wire Act becomes a U.S. Justice Department mandate. But how likely is that to happen? Three law professors at the UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law tackled that question Thursday in a Moot Court presentation. Broadly, the reinterpretation could further restrict internet gambling. The Justice Department reversed some of the stances it made in 2011, when it interpreted the law to ba
