Two workers in lottery pool sue over $118 million ticket
Like I said, it depends on the rules of their pool. If the pool has a $2 buy-in, and you decide to put a little extra in, that's up to you, but only $2 was required to get in. If Johnny decides to get bold with a $10 bet, why should the rest of the pool suffer? I'm just sayin, I wouldn't join a pool with any other set of rules. If you're telling me the buy-in is $5, I don't want someone coming in out of nowhere and putting in $20 and taking money away from everyone else.

Texas Woman Sues Over Winning Lottery Ticket
According to the lawsuit, Domingo agreed to join the pool and asked how much she owed one of the women, but was told the amount had not been determined. One woman promised to buy Domingo's portion and let Domingo pay her later, the suit states. That's the old scam of coming up with money to join a lottery pool after it wins. A person who wanted to play in the winning lottery pool always has an excuse for not actually paying to be in the pool and think that excuse should entitle them to sha

Salon lottery winners settle dispute
I think it is smart to already have copies made and distributed to every member a day or so before the draw so they are well aware of which tickets are a part of the pool. This was a reall messy pool. How do you not have any rules, copies, or agreements? Unbelievable. I really don't think they deserve a share since there were no copies of the tickets or numbers that was a part of the pool. But the leader of the pool should have let it be known that she buys tickets seperately as well as with the

NJ man sued over $38.5M lottery ticket
And if I worked somewhere were there was a lottery pool, I would avoid participating in it even though they stand as good a chance as I of winning. Sure, it would suck to be that guy looking in from the outside should they win. But the fact that I have never witnessed a lottery pool do due diligence in claiming the prize makes me averse to such arrangements. Lottery pools usually come out for a press conference a few days or weeks after the win whereas an individual can discreetly claim on his/h

NJ man sued over $38.5M lottery ticket
Trust but verify. Had they verified their combinations before the drawings instead of just trusting a co-worker to tell them the results after the drawings, this mess could have been avoided. Players who buy tickets for themselves and a pool should insist on this policy because some people join a pool thinking if anyone in the pool ever wins a case can be made for them sharing with the pool even if their winning ticket wasn't bought for the pool.

Disputed $50M lottery jackpot partially paid out
Another issue that needs to be addressed is the purchasing of additional tickets for one's own self, particularly by the person who is running the pool. For example, lets say there's a pool of 20 people who each pitch in $2 for a total of $40. While purchasing the pool's tickets, the person running the pool buys an additional $5 ticket for him/herself. If that $5 ticket wins the jackpot, members of the pool are likely to believe that deception has occured. Even if the person running the pool was

SoCal man sues to get share of $315 million lottery jackpot
I agree in part that folks who pool together do so to increase their ticket wins. Otherwise we *had* to boot a co-worker out of our pool for the reason cited- Rarely cast money into the pool but always agreed to *pay*later out of the pool winnings. We finally made it a pay-n-play as you go. Each game was separate and playable based on the members. The guy still badgers us to let him back in when the jackpot gets pretty high ;we graciously decline. The irony is...he's one of those guys that woul

SoCal man sues to get share of $315 million lottery jackpot
good advice. I'm reviewing our rules too. I've drafted a receipt for the pool buy-in that includes the rules and requires members to sign that they have read, understand and agree to the rules. The rules used to allow me to pick the numbers but I'm changing it so that I have to buy quick picks.I won't give up the option of being able to buy my own tickets though. This freedom is given to all members and has always been a part of our rules and is included with every email distributing the n
