A Question About the Mega Millions Game
History Of The Game Mega Millions, the game that holds the record for the largest jackpot in North American history, began on August 31, 1996 as the Big Game. The first drawing took place on September 6, 1996, with six states participating: Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan and Virginia. After exciting growth of the game in 1997, a Tuesday drawing was added in February 1998. Players were given a larger choice of numbers and a cash payout option in January 1999. In May 19

What's with NY Sweet Million??
Does anyone know if you buy a Powerball ticket in a state other than the state you reside in, and you win a small prize, ($3.00 or $7.00) can you cash it in a store located in the state you live in? We drove to western Massachusetts last Saturday to go shopping at an outlet mall. I stopped for gas, and for no particular reason bought a PB ticket. After I drove away from the gas station, it occured to me that if I won a large prize, I'd have to go back to Mass to claim it. But if the prize wa

Help: Can Someone list me the 13 States that had: Powerball or Megamillions: Is important...
It just so happens that I produced an image showing the states that participated in each game. I made this image before the expansion to help me visualize where each game was played. Mega Millions was played in 12 states, the dark blue ones. Powerball was played in red states, D.C., and the Virgin Islands. Of the small states that are hard to see, Mega Millions was in Maryland and Massachusetts, and Powerball was in Delaware, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, as well as West Virginia (which i

Hans, thank you for sharing. I would appreciate you testing for Massachusetts Megabucks 6/42. These are the numbers I came up with: bankers 12 23 28 single digit 01. I'm using the numbers that hit the most in the past 50 draws. Is that a good idea or a bad idea? Thanks, John

Here is what the Mega website says: Mega Millions Jackpot Winner! There was one $135 million jackpot winner from Michigan in the Tuesday, April 01, 2008 Mega Millions drawing. More details to follow after the winner comes forward to claim their prize. Also, 9 lucky players matched the first 5 numbers for a $250,000 prize: 1 from California, 1 from Georgia, 1 from Massachusetts, 1 from New Jersey, 3 from New York, 1 from Texas, and 1 from Virginia. I wonder if the Powerball will reach epic proportions?
PB being offered in more states may make it easy for people from out of state to drive to a PB state, but there are at least two probems with that helping PB more than it helps MM. One is that only a small percentage of tickets are sold to people from out of state, especially when the jackpot is less than 150 million or so. The other is that the people from PB states can drive to a MM state just as easily, so it works both ways. Those small northeastern states does mean that anyone from the l

MM Megaplier
Frankly I don't like spending an extra dollar for a game. We don't have MM in Florida, but Fantasy 5 has EZ Match. At first it was very popular and the jackpots increase quite a bit, but I think less people now are spending the extra dollar. I could be wrong, because millions of snowbirds left in May which also has an effect on the lottery. I agree with Prob that it's better to just buy more tickets. If the Matrix changes, I would never play MM or PB. The odds are too high now. What's wrong wi

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
The Megamillions jackpot has rolled over and the cash value is now $52.4M. The cash value reached on the last drawing was $45.2M. The annuity value is now $88M, just shy of the $90M annuity record for this number of drawings in a prize building pool. The lottery is apparently predicting 22.6M in sales. If this proves to be correct, the probability of various numbers of winners is given in the following table:087.93%111.31%20.73%30.03%I have updated the data fitted into my exponential modelin
