Mega Millions and Powerball Race
The probability of the Mega Millions jackpot rolling was over 98% Every cloud has a silver lining. IMHO, spending $5 for a MM ticket while the jackpot is $82.1 million (cash) is bat shi t crazy, but every dollar that goes towards the jackpot results in a smaller chance of the jackpot being won before it gets bigger, so there's a better chance that if will get bigger. It takes sales of about 341 million tickets for the cash value to reach $500 million and as of last night's rollover this

From textbooks to firefighters: how lottery dollars make a difference By Kate Northrop Today, the California Lottery celebrates its official 40th anniversary, and aside from launching a colorful scratch-off ticket to mark the occasion, it's raised over $48 billion for educational programs across its entire lifespan and influenced more than 1,000 school districts. So what will happen if the jackpot grows out of control to $5,000,000,000 curious Good morning! That's an excellent and fascinating question. The idea of a $5 billion Powerball jackpot is mind-boggling and pushes the limits of the lottery system itself. Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Fun race to watch. If I'm betting on which one gets caught first, I'd actually lean Powerball purely on cadence - three draws a week vs two means more chances to roll AND more chances to die. Mega's been the slow burner since the format change (1 in 290.5M vs PB's 1 in 292.2M, so basically identical odds per line now), but fewer draws per week means MM jackpots age slower. The thing I always watch in these races is ticket-sales elasticity - once either one crosses ~$800M the casual money flo

The Florida Millionaire Raffle is back!
The current raffle is capped at 2,000,000 tickets. But ticket sales have been so slow since March 1st when tickets first went on sale, there's no way they'll ever sell 2,000,000. As of yesterday they've only sold about 337,000. The sales cycle ends on June 30th, so the odds of them selling out 2 million tickets have a snowball's chance in Hell. Gotta love that if you're a player. In addition to the benefits you listed, it's guaranteed that there will be 10 winners of one million dollars. Th

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Historically, albeit rarely, MM would occasionally approach pre-tax expectation values of greater than 1.0. This is sure to never happen with the $5 ticket. It's entirely possible that the current format could reach 1.0 before taxes. In fact, it's even more likely thanks to the $5 ticket price, and 4 of the top 5 MM jackpots show that it's possible. The five biggest MM jackpots all exceeded a pre-tax 1.0 expectation value (about $605 million cash), with cash values of $877.8 million, $7

The Florida Millionaire Raffle is back!
They very well have misjudged how players are thinking these days. They do say that this particular raffle is a promotion which makes me think it's not going to be offered again anytime soon. If ticket sales don't materialize like they want/need, then I doubt they'll bring it back. For many players 20 bucks a pop is a tough sell. And the lack of instant gratification that a scratch off offers could be a big turn off for some. Add to that many folks are feeling an economic pinch d

The Florida Millionaire Raffle is back!
Does anyone know when the last millionaire raffle was held? I moved to Florida in 2020 and this raffle is the first one I've seen. I doubt anybody but the Florida Lottery knows if there was a ticket buying frenzy toward the back end of the sales cycle for the previous raffle. I'm looking forward to seeing the ticket sales number as of tomorrow posted on the lottery's website. Hoping we see a number in the range of 318,000 to 321,000. G5

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
The Mega Millions jackpot increased by the minimum $10 million to $150 million after 10 rolls. There is an estimated 1.6% chance the Mega Millions jackpot will be won in the next draw. The jackpot is underfunded from sales by about $2 million. After the next draw, the jackpot will be fully funded from sales and will start growing by more than the $10 million minimum. The Powerball jackpot is slowly catching up to the Mega Millions jackpot. The Mega Millions jackpot is $50 million larger than
