Giving Tips.
I haven't won in the store yet, but honestly, if I hadn't read this thread first, it wouldn't even occur to me to tip the clerk. I'm not stengy with money, but it's just one of those things that I wouldn't have even thought about doing.

Discussion of lottery at work...
I think some people get jobs at places that sell lottery tickets so they can say Good luck and don't forget me when you win to every lottery player. One time I cashed in a $500 ticket and the clerk asked if I had forgot her tip. She made the comments half jokingly but I think she was really serious and would have been pissed if I had given her an extra 50 . I gave her a wink and a smile instead.

Air Force sergeant claims $93.4 million Powerball jackpot
I didn't think the locals were generous tippers either, but the other day when I cashed in an Ohio649 4of6 winner for a $100, the clerk told me that it was not unusual for customers with such small winnings to tip her $20. I thought she was full of it so I grinned and I told her I didn't tip. If I had a winner that was too big to be cashed at a designated bank, I would never confirm it locally but head for the lottery headquarters.

Air Force sergeant claims $93.4 million Powerball jackpot
In New Mexico there's no danger of a store clerk, a waiter, a cab driver, or a blackjack dealer anticipating a tip. The touristas are too penny-pinching and the locals are generally too rightfully frugal. On the other hand, if he'd gone in to a liquer store or convenience store to confirm, he might have got himself relieved of the ticket by hold-up men who were dropping in to pick up some beer money, or killed in the parking lot in a drive-by.The guy did the smart thing here.Jack

Honest store clerk returns $100,000 lottery ticket
i agree the ticket readers are sometimes difficult to read and or operate.here, where i check mine the machine is frequently out of service.also when i check my numbers i have missed winners that the machine found for me (two four number winners) i believe the clerk was doing the best they could and was not cheating or being careless. i think i would have given a tip of 10%.the comments here do not seem to reflect those opinions on the related page of polling whether to return tickets or not.

Honest store clerk returns $100,000 lottery ticket
I'm sure that clerk preferred to have a honest tip regardless of the amount or he would have cashed in the ticket himself and had a dishonest $100,000 and the fear of being caught.RJOh

Tip for the clerk that sold the ticket
My earlier comment about not feeling obligated to give a tip doesn't mean that I would not.No one can say for sure how they're going to feel after winning, but I would probably give some kind of tip if I bought the ticket from my regular clerk/store, but I would probably not if I happened to buy the ticket from some other place on a whim.

TIP = To Improve Service You don't owe anybody a TIP the waiter, waitress, gas stattion attendant and yes lottery store clerk / machine operator. You give a tip to someone that has gone out of their way doing their job to give you exceptional service. That is where the tip comes in. I use to play the daily games when I worked it New Jersey, the clerk at the store knew me well and at times when I had a hit and she could'nt pay me out from the register during lunch time she told me she woul
