Mega Millions and Powerball Race
The Mega Millions jackpot has increased by $57 million to $900 million after 38 consecutive rolls and is the largest Mega Millions jackpot since December 2024. This is largest jackpot increase since the launch of the new format. There is a 5.3% chance the jackpot will be won in the November 11 draw with projected sales of $80.1 million. This is also the highest sales since the launch of the new game. A new Mega Millions roll record was set at 38 consecutive rolls of the jackpot. The jackpot

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
The Mega Millions jackpot has increased by $43 million to $843 million after 37 consecutive rolls and is the largest Mega Millions jackpot since December 2024. This jackpot increase is surprisingly less than the previous increase. There is a 4.6% chance the jackpot will be won in the November 7 draw with projected sales of $70.3 million. This is the highest sales since the launch of the new game. The Mega Millions jackpot is starting to grow faster than Powerball as evidenced in only the las

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Here was my reasoning. If they advertise $794M, they get less excitement/sales than if they advertise $800. And the additional excitement alone brings the additional ca. $10M of sales that generated the $3M cash/$6M annuitized additional roll that bring you to $800M. Advertising less than $800M would have been a self-inflicted missed opportunity.

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
The buying frenzy for Powerball spilled over to Mega Millions. I suppose it would be foolish to guess at the logic of people buying lottery tickets, but I don't think it makes any sense to buy a $5 MM ticket just because you're at the store and decided to take a chance on a PB ticket. OTOH, I think it's fairly likely that the people who are basically non-players that decide to take a chance when it's 1 billion + could buy a ticket for the wrong game. At $5 a pop it only takes 3 million tick

Powerball reaches $643 million: highest lottery jackpot of 2025
I'm surprised that you got that completely backwards. With fixed annual payments the advertised annuity would be less than the inflated advertising value they get by keeping more money invested for a longer time. Of course advertising that smaller annuity would almost certainly reduce sales a bit, making both the cash and annuity even smaller after any given number of rolls. They tell us the graduated annuity makes sense because of inflation, but I feel very confident that that's strictly PR abo

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Anyone with the tiniest clue knew that tickets sales would go down with even a modest price increase, but a lot of people seem to be missing the clue that the lotteries are interested in revenue, not ticket sales. Revenue for the current MM run, including the estimates for Friday, is a hair over $381 million, vs $426 million for the previous ($5) run after 16 drawings. The current run is about 10.6% behind the previous run, but also competing with a strong PB run. Even so it's a hair over $1 mil

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Even though Powerball is clearly winning this race, the Powerball jackpot is growing at much lower rates than its record runs. Lottery sales for the big national games are down. This is probably the main reason the Mega Millions game was recently changed. Many of the Powerball records were set when the draws were held twice a week. When they went to three draws per week, naturally sales per draw went down. The current Powerball jackpot at $426 million was reached after 27 rolls. But, the 27

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
There has been a lot of focus on how slowly the Mega Millions jackpot is growing. It appears many do not understand the jackpot has only been growing by the minimum $10 million per draw in order for sales to fully support the jackpot. It takes longer than usual because of the unusually large starting jackpot of $50 million. This is the largest starting jackpot of any lottery game in the whole world. There is no game anywhere in the world that has a starting jackpot that large. So naturally, it w

Mega Millions constant $10 million increases
A $2 prize (times whatever multiplier, so $4 to $20) for matching two white balls would add 18% to the value of all non-jackpot prizes in total. That's a lot for such a small win. More accurately a $2 prize for matching 2 white balls would reduce the money that goes to the jackpot by about 14.6%. That would reduce the current cash value of $67.9 million to $58 million. For those who believe the advertising it would reduce the current $150 million annuity to $128 million if they abandoned or
