California Lottery accidentally publishes winner's address instead of retailer's in press release
No excuse for that data breach. I hope there is a lawsuit. Gross incompetence. 800 media outlets!!! How can one mix up a retailer address which is likely in their system vs a personal address?
Wow!

ideal lottery pool size
I chose just me. I don't need any lottery drama like what happened with Philip Tsostos when he won the lottery and his coworkers sued him each for a cut of his winnings because they had participated in a lottery pool with him. Philip claimed he bought a separate lottery ticket aside from the pool's ticket and claimed that his solo lottery ticket was the one that won not the lottery pool ticket. It was a huge mess. He won his lawsuit case but this is a cautionary tale on why lottery pools can be

$83.5 million Lotto Texas jackpot winner will receive prize payout from Texas Lottery
Perhaps part of the settlement was also to pay the legal fees. Would make sense in all this since now the law firm carries the account as the trust holder. They may temporarily regulate it .. which could be another lawsuit on her hands to get the funds settled for her use. There was a lawyer in Louisiana that made a killing on putting ppls insurance settlements into trust and he wiped it out .
Here's hoping she can enjoy the big payout

Arizona Lottery delays expiration date of $12.8 million jackpot-winning ticket in legal battle
Kreamer said that he would sign an order that would compel the bank to come forward with those details so that the key party can be named in the lawsuit.
Named in the lawsuit or subpoenaed as a witness? It might be useful to have the original prospective buyer testify that the reports that they requested all of the tickets but chose not to buy some of them are correct, but AFAIK they've never come forward (or why the need to use the debit card to identify them?) to assert a claim of ownersh

Circle K asks judge to delay expiration date for $12.8 million Arizona Lottery jackpot amid dispute
Multiple parties still embroiled in gooey legal battle over who owns the winning ticket
By Kate Northrop
With the expiration date just weeks away, a retailer is asking a judge to freeze a ticket that won a $12.8 million Arizona Lottery The Pick jackpot while the court figures out who it belongs to.
Circle K is trying to get a judge to stop a $12.8 million jackpot-winning ticket from expiring until the legal dispute over ownership is finally determined.
In February, the Arizona Lo

Arizona lottery retailer employee sued after buying $12.8 million ticket knowing it was a winner
Contention over who should be entitled to the jackpot prize
By Kate Northrop
An employee at an Arizona Lottery retailer is being taken to court after purchasing a lottery ticket he already knew won a $12.8 million jackpot in The Pick.
There's a legal battle heating up in Arizona over a $12.8 million The Pick jackpot and about who the winning lottery ticket rightfully belongs to.
A complaint filed by Circle K reveals that on Nov. 24, 2025, a customer visited the location at East B

Three $1 million winning Powerball lottery tickets sold at the same New York store
is it mandatory for those second place winners to have at least their names appear?
The lottery thinks so, but they might be wrong. A lawsuit in NH struck down the lottery's claimed rule that state law required them to release the names. The law the lottery relied on was a sunshine law requiring the state to make public the names of entities they did business with. The judge ruled that the law was intended to make state business, such as building contracts and other things public. I've got

Kindness is never wasted! 😊
Lol. For very large wins, lotteries have to do basic due diligence for legal reasons. Asking when and where you got your ticket would be part of a vetting process.
Advising anyone to lie says a lot about some people. So someone comes forward and you lied about the origin of your ticket. Do you think you would be afforded any credibility at that point??? You would set yourself up for a long investigation and possible lawsuit. Why would anyone with any degree of common sense do that???

Judge dismisses $320 million lawsuit for DC Lottery posting wrong Powerball numbers
Cheeks went pro se a while back. I am sure it was likely due to non payment to his attorney.
I have been following the cases and my understanding is that the DC lottery and MUSL ( and vendor?) actions are still pending but should be dismissed soon. Only the Florida lottery matter was dismissed. I have no clue why Cheeks included the Florida lottery as a party legal strategy wise.
Courts give pro se parties a lot of time to file and amend pleadings over and over so there is no cause ther

Texas trust claims second half $1.8 billion Powerball lottery jackpot
Did the winner have to form a trust to claim the prize?
There's no reason that a winner would be required to form a trust or an LLC to claim a prize but there are plenty of good reasons to do it. Among other things, both are separate legal entities (you remember corporations are people, my friend ?) so the actual winner has access to the deep pockets but doesn't actually have deep pockets that are potentially accessible to anyone who files a lawsuit. It also lets you avoid probate.
