Tough economy? Some cut back on lottery tickets, wagering
As gas pump prices and grocery store bills rise, customer service representative Rita Herron has been paying attention to where her money goes, and that means decreasing from 10 to two lottery tickets a week.
I pay more for gas, and so I have less money left for tickets, Herron said. Everything is going up.
Throughout the country, 20 lotteries, including California, have reported flat or declining sales, according to data from La Fleur's Magazine, a lottery trade publication, and state l

Don't buy lottery tickets for kids, researcher warns
Parents who buy lottery tickets as presents for their kids are gambling with their children's futures, says a McGill University researcher.
It's really something that's common, said Alissa Sklar, a researcher with McGill's International Centre for Youth Gambling Problems and High-Risk Behaviours.
Thirty percent of kids under 18 report having received a lottery ticket or scratch card as a gift, Skar said, citing a recent survey of children and teens in Quebec.

Bail set at $1m for UK internet gaming boss
The former BETonSPORTS chief executive David Carruthers is likely to be released on $1m bail within days under a deal with the American government which would allow him to live in the Midwestern city of St Louis until his trial for organizing illegal gambling.
Mr. Carruthers was one of eight people connected to BETonSPORTS who appeared in Missouri's federal court yesterday to enter pleas of not guilty in relation to charges of fraud, racketeering and unlawful gaming.

US House votes to kill Internet gambling
Take steps to curb gaming on Internet
Critics find a lot of reasons the U.S. House of Representative's recent legislation to curb Internet gambling cannot succeed:
* Online gambling is extremely widespread, originating mostly outside the boundaries and influence of the United States.
* As many as 80 countries allow it in some form. There are already some 2,500 Internet gambling sites, and the number is growing rapidly.
* Many religious organizations won't get behind the bill becaus

The Two Titans of the Lottery Industry
We often hear that the $40 billion spent on video games worldwide dwarfs the amount spent on the motion picture industry. But another form of mass entertainment dwarfs them both: the lottery business. According to a Morgan Stanley study, sales of lottery tickets around the world will top $160 billion in 2004.You should be thankful for the lottery business this week as you write a check for your tax bill. That's because you'd probably owe a lot more if not for your fellow citizens' crazed desire

How can past draws help predict the lottery?
Number are always going to behave like mischievously misbehaved children. There's really no telling what they will do next. But an attentive Mother who delivers a keen eye over her child instinctively knows when their ready for a nap. If you watch your States game close enough you can very well get the instinct of a lurking mother. I'd like to think that all the predictors here are loving numbers and predicting from instinct after observation. Some of them do really well at too.
Personally,

Alabama Senate passes lottery bill
Without a vote to spare, a plan to let Alabama voters have their say on a state lottery for the first time in 20 years stayed alive today.
The Alabama Senate passed the bill by a vote of 21-12. Twenty-one was the minimum number for passage because the bill is a proposed constitutional amendment, requiring approval of three-fifths of the 35 senators.
The bill moves to the House, where it faces the same three-fifths requirement. If it wins final passage, it would go on the ballot for voters

What Should Your State Do To Improve The Lottery?
The procedure for drawing the balls hasn't changed....... clue me in on what makes you think the drawings are dishonest.
The contract with WJZ expired and as per the lottery's rules they have to offer the contract for bidding and WBAL won the bid probably the lowest bid of all the stations. WBAL knew they were getting a bargain because they wouldn't have to televise certain drawings since they also had the contract to do many sports related shows.
Keno payout's in Maryland are se
