Poisson's tables of repeating #'s
I haven't done a probability table on the new Powerball matrix, but my past calculations on these charts in this large a pool have indicated that just around the 40% area of total possibilities there is an even chance that a set of numbers generated by a random number generator will be exactly the same as one of the previous sets of numbers. In the Powerball 5/55+1/42 matrix there are 146,107,962 possibilities, so, without doing the actual chart, around the 58,443,185th random number generation

Breakfast buddies file suit over lottery ticket
Sometimes the issue of Having * integrity* lays heavily in court cases. Since most of the reporters allegations are merely on the sums lets play math here. Any citizen may bring any ludicrious amount to the court systems and ask for it in their case. The FACTS are - rarely are those sums granted or ever paid in winning cases. Even when Major corporation are sued -they dont write out a check to the defendent-instead they tie the case up in appeals. What this gang is doing is typical- its DOESNT p

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
The Megamillions jackpot has rolled over and the cash value is now $52.4M. The cash value reached on the last drawing was $45.2M. The annuity value is now $88M, just shy of the $90M annuity record for this number of drawings in a prize building pool. The lottery is apparently predicting 22.6M in sales. If this proves to be correct, the probability of various numbers of winners is given in the following table:087.93%111.31%20.73%30.03%I have updated the data fitted into my exponential modelin

SoCal man sues to get share of $315 million lottery jackpot
I don't agree. I've never been one to argue over money. But you know what? I've been stupid! To make my life easier I often gave in, but as long as people are honest and know a decision is fair and just, they should always defend their position. This is a matter of principle. If he was not an active member in the pool, then he doesn't deserve to get a share. What's to prevent others from following his actions? We really don't know the entire story, but if the article which states he hadn't pla

SoCal man sues to get share of $315 million lottery jackpot
Demonter - I will probably change my rules slightly to take care of the deadbeats, but I also agree with playing with people you trust. I trust everyone in my Pool fortunately, but like has been said before, money changes people. I am usually the one that covers the people that are late, and I trust them enough to pay me back, which they have not had a problem doing that. But really technically, the pool's winnings are covering them since that money is rolled over anyway. I don't know...I guess

Woman found guilty of stealing winning lottery ticket
Nobie,I agree with you that we should have forseen that any winning would potentially be pilfered by a low income Dora. If you've read my other posts you would know that I had no idea Dora was checking my tickets until after I reported she won the lottery to the group. This situation and particularly the lottery commission's response to it made me mad enough that I haven't played the lottery since, whether in a pool, or alone.Raven,You sleuth!! You are exactly right. In my free time I search

Woman found guilty of stealing winning lottery ticket
Thanks Awesomo2000 for your version of what happened. I did go back and read what you had to say. It shed some new light.I feel for you and the other traders. It was a bad call on your boss to let anyone else aside from the lottery pool to go and check. Things happen and we all have to move on. I'm glad you are getting the money you rightfully won. (minus lawyer fees and such)That being said, she's going to walk. I'm sure you would like to tie her up and stone her to death for all the sh!t she p

Couple learns downside of lottery pools -- the hard way
We have a pool at office of 8 of us who are close friends and we started playing lottery as a group around one year back. We take turns to buy tickets. I on my own also buy ticket for myself. We decided that the person who buys ticket will copy it or scan it and send/give to others either personally or through email. Sometimes we used to get copies before drawing and some time after, which bothered some of us. So we decided some rules for group.1)Ticket copies must be distributed before the draw
