$800 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges on rollover
Why is the cash amount so much less then only a few months ago. In July when the annuity prize was 830 million the cash prize was 488 million. now it is only 383 million for 800 million annuity. I would like to know why? I know it is the powerball vs the mega million but if you go back into the powerball history then you would see the same trend. Why almost 100 million difference?

Sorry, I messed up the Just the Jackpot (JTJ) pricing. It's $3 for 2 tickets, not $1 for 1 ticket. Comparing JTJ to regular ticket, then, we have the following equation for the equal EV / unit bet: (2/3)(kJ)p = (1/2)(kJ)p + A/2 Therefore, J = 3A/(kp). Comparing JTJ to Megaplier ($3) ticket, we have the following: (2/3)(kJ)p = (1/3)(kJ)p + (3A)/3 Therefore, again, J = 3A/(kp) To re-iterate Regular Ticket vs Megaplier: (1/2)(kJ)p + A/2 = (1/3)(kJ)p + (3A)/3 Once again,

I see that most people will take the cash vs annuity unless they want to hide something. it depends. I know what usamega says, might have to look. I might have to ask another accountant I know or someone else. What is the remainder after taxes from that state are taken out? So the payment amt is $1 million. ( multiplier 2 3 4 5) i'm not ta
