California divides the prize money derived from sales into 8 different buckets representing the 8 non-jackpot prize levels. Stuck with 10X? I can't see any reason why PB players who buy the PowerPlay option are stuck with it. Since Oct of 2015 the 10X multiplier has appeared just handful of times. (Although it did show twice this year) That's because if the jackpot is less than $150,000,000 10X is in play, but the minute the jackpot exceeds $150,000,000 it's removed from play. Our pool has their tickets for the Friday Mega Millions draw. We did very well with the multipliers. In the previous two draw, our highest multiplier was 3 times. But with our new tickets, the lowest multiplier is 3 times! Plus with have 2 tickets with a 5 times multiplier and 1 ticket with a 10 times multiplier. Good luck to everyone playing on Friday!

One downside for US players - Faster growing jackpots mean the 10X multiplier when you buy the PowerPlay option will be removed from play sooner. It gets removed from play when the jackpot exceeds $150,000,000. If the jackpot gets to $150,000,000 sooner due to UK ticket sales then the 10X multiplier gets removed sooner. Not that the 10X multiplier happens a lot, but it'll probably be seen even less than it does now. G5

I just noticed there is a change in plans for our pool. The pool bought both Mega Millions and Powerball tickets this time. Mega Millions for Friday and Powerball for Saturday. That would really be something if the pool won both games on the same weekend. There would be one heck of an investigation. The Mega Millions tickets had one 5 times multiplier and one 4 times multiplier. No multiplier option selected for the Powerball tickets.

Powerball is $3 here in Idaho. They bundle the multiplier with it for your convenience. Can't buy a ticket here without the multiplier. Then we have the Double Play for another dollar which isn't a bad price for a chance at a $10 million dollar top prize. So for me, Powerball already costs $4.

It's because of the stupid 2X multiplier and the baseline starting jackpot. Eliminate the 2X multiplier and increase the starting baseline jackpot to $150M and you will see the new MM pop. The players are a lot smarter than the LOTTERY SUITS give them credit for. They need to see what they are paying for .
