It's an old idea so I can't take credit. It goes back to the 60s with the Strat-a-matic baseball game where the players had stats cards. Later there was Earl Weaver (computer based) where players chose a team and the game was computer controlled. Now we have Madden (NFL), futball (soccer), cricket, plus baseball, basketball, say, almost any sport. That would be my blueprint.
