The Florida Lottery doesn't make the total take publicly available. But if players use FF5's official rules (which they make available on their website) then the total take can be calculated. Even then, when I've manually calculated the total take in the past, I didn't include the dollars that players spend on EZ Match. The reason why FF5 jackpots were so good and lower tier prizes were so bad is due to the percentages allocated to prizes of the winners prize pool. FF5's official rules show 62% of the winner's prize pool is used to fund the jackpot. The second place prize is 10% of the winners pool and the third place prize prize is 28% of the winners pool. Have you ever heard somebody say There's a reason for everything. Have you ever wondered why when there is no jackpot winner the second place prize is always $555.00? It's because FF5's official rules cap the second place prize at $555. The second prize pool shall be divided equally among the players matching four of five official winning numbers except that the maximum prize amount per winner shall be $555. The total take was approximately $138,000 for the midday drawing. Half goes to Florida, ($69,000) the other half goes to the FF5 winners prize pool. Sixty two percent of the winners prize pool is used to fund the jackpot. Sixty two percent of $69,000 is $42,600 which is the amount one winner won. Stinks, doesn't it? G5

Hi Lj.... The rolldown will apply to both draws. The problem with FF5 roll downs is that a FF5 jackpot does NOT grow with a roll down. The $$ are simply rolled down and the second place prize becomes $555. (As opposed to approximately $100.) All money in each drawings prize pool is returned to players for that specific drawing. There is no future drawing with a larger prize pool than the previous drawing's due to a roll down. Wouldn't that be nice!! But The Florida Lottery aint of a min

I like to pick 3 or 4 numbers for each of the lines I'm going to play from the pool of numbers that appeared in the last 10 drawings. Over the life of FF5, an average of 4 of the 5 winning numbers in any given drawing came from the last 10 draws. The down side of doing this is that you're usually picking from a pool of 24 to 26 of FF5's 36 numbers. That's a lot of numbers. But there's no doubt that doing this helps a little . The jackpot for the evening draw is $122,000 for one player. That says the take for the draw was $394,000. $197,000 went to Florida, the other $197,000 to the winners prize pool. Sixty two percent of the winners prize pool ($122,000) which was the jackpot. OK, $122,000 isn't all that bad. FF5 is an all or nothing game. The lower tier prizes are awful, and NOT why anybody plays FF5. Players play FF5 to win the jackpot. In New York, a bigger percentage of the prize pool is allocated to the lower tier prizes so the second place prize has gotten to as large as $1,000. (Normally it's about $600 to $700) But due to allocating a bigger percentage to the lower tier prizes, that also means allocating a smaller percentage of the prize pool to the jackpot.
