In other states it may be different, but here the lottery absolutely will not pay out anything without verifying that the person making the claim was actually the person who bought the ticket. Until about six months ago, the New York State Lottery used to post if the first prize winning ticket was a QUICK PICK or REGULAR (OWN NUMBERS). I wrote and asked why they don't make the distinction any longer. The reply I received said that because of SECURITY ISSUES they don't do it any more. I couldn't think of any security issue where it would matter if the public knew if the ticket was a quick pick or if the winner chose their own numbers.

When I saw your comment about Brave I immediately downloaded it to try it out. I'm going through everything on Lottery Post and I can't find one thing that doesn't work. The Quick Picks work fine. It is using the default security settings ( shields are UP ), so I didn't have to relax the security or anything. Could you have some kind of plugin or settings in Brave that is causing it to not work?

I would have given the clerk that ticket and just tell the truth that I found it left behind in the machine. Maybe the clerk knows who to return it to because it's a regular customer, maybe not. Either way, it's out of my hands. If the clerk is dishonest enough to try to claim it as her own, she won't get very far because of the time stamp and security footage. Not my monkeys not my circus, as they say.

Retailers have security cameras and sometimes the machines themselves also have cameras. That would prove you bought the tickets even if you couldn't remember exactly where or when. Worst case scenario, if the lottery demanded an absurd level of precision that you couldn't provide, you could sue them to pay out the prize. I doubt they would refuse to pay out a prize because you couldn't remember whether or not you bought a bag of Cheetos with the ticket.

The nice thing about US lottery is that each state lottery office employs a security personnel; they are former police detective who only purpose is to investigate big wins. Case and point, when my lottery pool won $4000 on a scratcher, they asked us about the purchase and time of day when we claimed it.
