S.C. Lottery Director: Profit losses leveling off
Sales of South Carolina lottery tickets initially sank as gas prices climbed, but customers seem to have gotten used to paying more at the pump, the state's lottery director said Wednesday.
When gas prices climbed above $3 a gallon after Hurricane Katrina, lottery sales at South Carolina gas stations fell sharply, probably because customers felt that they had less pocket change after filling up. But a sample survey of retailers shows convenience store sales have since leveled, director Ernie

The Massachusetts state lottery, which fell short of revenue projections last year, is dramatically expanding a keno-style game in a move it estimates could bring in an additional $160 million annually, officials said.
The Daily Race Game, in which players can win up to $900 on a $1 bet, will expand from 200 to 1,500 locations across the state, and the graphics will change from cars to horses. Lottery commissioners on Wednesday approved the changes, which should be complete by next spring.

Kentucky Lottery has record revenues
The Kentucky Lottery Corp. had a record $744 million in revenues, or total ticket sales, in the fiscal year ending June 30, according to year-end figures.
The brisk sale of tickets for interactive, scratch-off games offset a decline in tickets sold for online, or computerized, games, including Powerball, Pick 3 and Pick 4.
Those sales suffered, in part, because there was only one large Powerball jackpot, which was hit at $254 million last January. Some tickets for the interactive games se

The B.C. Lottery Corporation has gone public with the names of its lottery retailers who have won major prizes, following this week's scathing report by the B.C. ombudsman into lottery irregularities.
The report said lottery officials have failed to protect consumers from possible fraud by ticket retailers, citing examples of retailers winning thousands of dollars at a much higher rate than that of the public at large.
Some of the retailers being named by the corporation are speaking out,

Indiana Lottery privitization takes big step forward
Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels' plan to privatize the state lottery took a major step forward Tuesday when a key Senate fiscal panel narrowly approved the proposal.
The 7-5 vote came after educators and business leaders lined up to support leasing the Hoosier Lottery to a private operator in exchange for $1 billion toward a life sciences initiative and scholarships meant to keep smart Hoosier kids in Indiana.
One Republican joined the four Democrats on the committee to vote against the measure
