GOP proposal would open door to lottery, casinos in Alabama
A constitutional amendment that would legalize gambling in Alabama authorizes a lottery, casino gambling and expanded Indian gaming.
Senate President Pro Tem Del Marsh, a Republican from Birmingham, Ala., gave other state senators an initial draft of the legislation Thursday. It calls for a Sept. 15 election so voters can decide the amendment's fate in wake of a projected $250 million shortfall in state's revenues this fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30.

Court rules grandmother, 90, will receive $1.85 instead of $41M jackpot
As a 90-year-old grandmother, Pauline McKee tries to maintain a sweet disposition.
When she played a penny slot machine that told her she had won more than $41 million, the Antioch woman remained pretty calm. That was nice, she said, recalling her reaction. Very nice.

Technical difficulties wreaked havoc with Thursday evening's Pennsylvania Lottery drawings, forcing the Pick 4 and Pick 5 drawings to occur after the telecast ended.

Man to donate $14 million casino jackpot to church

A Las Vegas man who put $20 into a slot machine hit a jackpot Sunday afternoon worth $14 million, and he's donating it all to his church.
The man, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said he's not a regular gambler and he was just playing the slot machines at Rampart Casino with a friend when he won the massive prize.

Supermarket chain accused of allowing lottery sales to minors
Children hoping to buy lottery tickets from vending machines may soon find it more difficult.
Northeastern University's Public Health Advocacy Institute is demanding that Star Market remove scratch lottery ticket vending machines from its Massachusetts stores after, PHAI claims, a 14-year-old was able to purchase tickets from two stores.
According to NECN, PHAI sent a letter to the company stating that a 14-year-old boy was able to purchase tickets at Star Market locations on Beacon Street

Slot machine saves German gambler as police arrive
Police said Thursday that two officers carrying out routine checks at an arcade in the western city of Bochum, Germany, late last week discovered that a man playing a slot machine faced an arrest warrant.
He had been ordered to pay a 710 (US$910) fine or go to prison for 71 days after resisting police during a previous incident.

36 SC stores suspended from lottery sales
Lottery officials in South Carolina say three dozen stores have been suspended from selling tickets because of their involvement in the operation of illegal gambling machines.
Holli Armstrong with the South Carolina Education Lottery told local media that the stores are being suspended for six months because of the illegal machines.

Thieves stole California Lottery vending machine
Investigators from the California Lottery are asking for the public's help in locating suspects who broke into a Lucky grocery store in Fremont over the weekend and made off with a Scratchers vending machine.
The thieves broke into the store, which is located on the 40000 block of Mission Boulevard, about 3 a.m. on Saturday.
