California Lottery computer glitch shuts down terminals
It's an unlucky day for the California Lottery. A computer glitch on Monday shut down lottery terminals around the state, preventing players from getting numbers for Powerball and other games. Only the scratch-off tickets were still being sold. Lottery spokesman Alex Traverso says there was a loss of signal that prevented the terminals from connecting to the system that generates the numbers. Traverso says about 350 out of 22,000 stores were affected, some for as long as five hours, but

NJ Lottery officials still investigating cause of massive outage
The exact cause and circumstances of a five-day outage that blocked nearly half of New Jersey's lottery retailers from selling printed tickets like Pick 3 and Mega Millions earlier this month are still a mystery, but a few determinations are unanimous. The blackout, although anomalous, was unacceptable, may have been detected sooner and should have been handled better, state officials and executives from Northstar New Jersey, the group responsible for the lottery's sales and marketing, said a

When normally they would be available as the retailors were opening their stores, WCLC stakeholder relations director, Amanda Marantz, explained. Something that Gilles Caron found out the hard way.

D.C. Lottery makes its pitch for Internet gambling
This much is clear: D.C. residents, or at least the handful of Ward 5 residents who came out to the Lamond-Riggs Library last night, don't have much of a problem with Internet gambling. At the first of eight community meetings set to discuss the city's controversial new iGaming program, few moral or philosophical objections were lodged against the idea that city residents should be able to gamble online legally, with the city getting a cut of the action. But that's not to say that everyone

Nevada lawmakers discuss lottery
Pointless annual exercise? By Todd Northrop In what would seem to outside observers to be an annual exercise in futility, the Nevada state legislature has again taken up the issue of creating a state lottery. With lines for lotto tickets like the one for Mega Millions this week in Primm, California, many residents believe Nevada should keep that money within the state and not send it to California. Some are calling for the state to use lottery-generated funds to beef up the state's educ
