Kentucky Democrats propose taxing lottery tickets
Democratic House leaders want to add a 6 percent sales tax to Kentucky Lottery purchases and expand the selection of lottery games as a way to increase funding for the state's ailing pension system.
House State Government Chairman Brent Yonts, D-Greenville, said adding a 6 percent sales tax on lottery games could generate about $49 million a year for the state. Adding additional games to the lottery could generate an additional $70 million to $90 million, he said.

Illinois Lottery glitch causes many duplicate Quick Pick tickets
Mary Ellen Reiter felt like she got one losing ticket for the price of two after discovering that eight sets of numbers on one Illinois Lottery quick-pick ticket that she bought matched eight sets of numbers on another.
I think that they should make it right, said Reiter, 52, of Evanston, who bought the duplicate tickets Sunday at a convenience store in the northern suburb. The way I figure, I should at least receive back $5 of free quick-picks.

Three winning lottery tickets donated to church
Unity North Atlanta Church on Sandy Plains Road in Northeast Cobb, Georgia, received an unusual gift last week from a generous churchgoer: winning lottery tickets.
The church member, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated three Georgia Lottery tickets totaling more than $4,000 to the northeast Cobb institution.
Staff claimed the prize on behalf of the church Aug. 1.
The Rev. Richard Burdick said the money would go toward the church's mortgage and monthly bills.

Store owner killed for $3 of lottery tickets
Felony murder charges have been filed against a man accused in the dragging death of a northern New Jersey gas station owner, who authorities say was killed over the alleged theft of a few dollars worth of lottery tickets.

Robbery suspects caught on tape redeeming stolen lottery tickets
Cops are looking for a man who has been caught on tape redeeming stolen California lottery tickets.
Stockton investigators say the man robbed Sally s Beauty Supply on Pacific Avenue in January, the Quick Stop on Fremont Street in January and again in March, the 7-11 on Da Vinci Drive and the AM/PM in Manteca, both in March.

Puerto Rico turns store receipts into lottery tickets
Don't throw out that lunch receipt: It could be worth $1,000.
That's the idea behind a campaign to force Puerto Rico's many tiny markets, food stalls and other mom-and-pop businesses to collect sales tax.

Electronic NJ lottery ticket plan advances
Legislation that would allow people to buy New Jersey lottery tickets on the Internet and by other electronic means continues to advance in the state Assembly.
The Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee approved the measure this month and referred it to the chamber's Appropriations Committee, which hasn't yet scheduled a hearing on it.
