The odds have dropped to zero for scratch tickets becoming Kwikies.
The Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations announced in a Monday press release that it no longer plans to brand the state's scratch tickets as Kwikies.
The Maine State Lottery is sensitive to the concerns of retailers and consumers alike, said Gerry Reid, director of Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages and Lottery Operations. We recently tested a new brand name for our instant ticket games, and the initial

Maine lottery scratch tickets may get new controversial name
The Maine State Lottery may soon give a name to its scratch tickets for the first time, but the name isn't sitting well with everyone.
A few weeks ago, the Maine State Lottery sent a pamphlet out to its 1,300 retailers, saying it plans to name the tickets Kwikies.
I thought that's going to be real uncomfortable for my girls behind the register to have guys come in and say 'Hey, give me a Kwikie,' said David Welch, owner of Village Market in Fairfield.
In slang terms, a quickie is a sh

Nobody was more surprised than Linda Von Oesen to find she'd won $8,190,000 in the September 26th Megabucks Plus drawing.
She was sleeping with her husband Bob in their camper, parked in a Walmart parking lot, when one of her daughters called to see if she'd bought a ticket.
So she says, 'check your ticket'. I said, 'oh, alright', explained Linda Von Oesen. So here we are in a camper, pitch dark and so I says, 'I got to find it, just give me the numbers.' And so I

Tri-State lottery players get extra chance to win Pick 4
Players of the Tri-State Pick 4 lottery had two chances to win this week when a ball left in the drawing machine led to two sets of winning numbers.
Lottery officials said they discovered that a ball was inadvertently left in the chute of the drawing machine before Tuesday's evening winning numbers were drawn, so the number wasn't included in the drawing.
Officials decided to hold another drawing Wednesday and pay out on both sets of Pick 4 numbers for the Tuesday evening draw.
The two

Maine Gov. nudged toward approval of Mega Millions
Keno and table games also on the radar for legislators
Maine may get another big jackpot lottery game, Mega Millions, if lawmakers approve a proposal discussed by the Appropriations Committee on Wednesday.
More lottery games is something we will definitely look at, said Sen. Bill Diamond, D-Windham, co-chair of the panel. I think there is some support, and concerns, on this committee for keno.
Diamond said Maine already is deeply involved in gambling and another lottery game is not re

Gov. says no way; doesn't like the lottery
Maine lawmakers say they want to expand the state lottery by adding a video version of keno and joining the multistate Mega Millions, but Gov. John Baldacci is against the idea.
Members of the legislature's Legal and Veteran Affairs Committee say Maine could reap $1.5 million annually by joining more than 30 other states in Mega Millions. They said Thursday that keno an electronic hybrid of the lottery and bingo could generate $2.3 million for the

Unemployed woman gets lotto winnings after 4 years
An unemployed woman who won $1 million in a Maine State Lottery game has collected her winnings four years after she bought the scratch ticket in a store that's since burned down.
