Back to the routine. I say enough with all the recurring number so I am gonna bet on fresh new sets of numbers, more evens than odds.

    So here are my ten numbers: 10 18 20 21 24 26 32 39 44 49

    No call on PB.

    good luck

Still undecided on white balls, but for the P.B. I am going with 16 ;-)

The Pigskin Challenge: Select ten numbers from the PowerBall 5/53 matrix and try to catch as many of the numbers drawn as possible. pigskin holds the current record of catching three numbers. Match four or five to become the heir to the throne and cash a big ticket. Hook your numbers to the right red PowerBall number and you could be the next PowerBall jackpot winner!

I've come up with the following ten numbers for Saturday night's drawing. I'll be using the same red PowerBall number with all my lines.

        6-7-15-21-22-28-36-38-48-53

        Good luck to all challengers,

In the last 10 draws, numbers that had hit 11 and 8 times in the previous 100 draws were the most popular, so I'm picking:

              09 37 43 44 47 13 15 27 29 32

FYI, the odds of having all 5 drawn numbers within your allotted 10 numbers are 1:11,388.  Once you manage that, you've got a 1:252 chance of winning $100,000 on any given line.

The regular odds of matching 5of5 in PB is 1:2,939,677.  Multiplying 11,388 by 252 equals 2,869,776.  Does this mean your odds of matching 5of5 is improved by playing from a pool of 10 numbers instead of 53?

                          RJOh,

waynr raised a similar inquiry in his current blog entry about the odds in the Hot Lotto game. I think the answer to your question is about the same. The difference in the odds (not withstanding some apparent rounding in the computations by JAG331) can be accounted for by the fact that there is the possibility of also having the PowerBall number along with a 5 of 5 match. Consequently, the correct odds are increased from 1:2,869,776 (actually 1:2,869,685) to the game's stated odds of 1:2,939,677.

Working from a reduced pool of 10 numbers, or any other amount less than 53, does nothing to change the odds of the game. There's always that big "if" of having the right numbers among those in whatever pool you play from.

                          Good luck,

                          aye'

Sounds reasonable.  I think I understand.

In the PB game with 42 bonus numbers there are 120,526,770 possible combinations with forty-two 5of5 combinations. Since one of them wins the jackpot there are 41 left that can win second prize, thus 120,526,770/41=2,939,677.31

Without the bonus ball there are 2,869,685 possible combinations with only one 5of5 combination that can win.  Using the rounded up numbers in the calculations resulted in 2,869,776 instead of 2,869,685 which is actually the possible combinations of 5's in 53 numbers.  Using a smaller pool of numbers just means you cover fewer of those combinations.

                            Thanks ayenowitall.

Looks like pigskin's record of matching three of the PowerBall game's 5/53 numbers from ten selections is still intact. RJOh called the 29,  and JAG331 had the 25 and 29 balls for a respectable two out of ten. My own numbers were a complete bust in this drawing.

I've already figured up my numbers for the Wednesday drawing. I'll see all you challengers back here in the Jackpot Games forum for another round then.

                              Good luck,
