If i win any jackpot with a cash value of over 5 million I would never work another day in my life.  I know there are some people who think that a jackpot winner will have to work again due to bad investments or lavish spending, but not me.  I have spent alot of time thinking about how wonderful it would be never to have to work again and I would never take a chance on anything and put my money in jeopardy.  Basically, I would take my 5 million and immediately put it into an interest earning account and never touch the principal.  I would treat the interest check I receive each year as a paycheck (theory being that I can't spend what I don't yet have).

5 million = 250,000 (with 5% interest), 125,000 (with 2.5% interest)

Come on who couldn't live on 125,000 a year?

I think it depends on how much you like your current job. I'd settle for 2 million in cash right now.

      dvdiva,

Good point...I forgot that there might be some people out there that actually like their jobs.

I would always work at something, but would no longer be guided by the need for money. I could do low paying charitable work and protest things that I can't consider now because of my need for a decent paycheck.

I would continue to work, because I like to keep busy and I'd get bored if I wasn't doing anything.

Although I wouldn't have to work anymore because of need, instead for an activity.

If I won the oregon megabucks on wed. I would have an easier time filling my day with trips to the beach and going to washington to play mega millions.  Work would take a backseat.

I can think of a million things I would do and work would not be one of them.  (Not for somebody else anyway)

I would continue to work, not for the money but because I love my job and need it to keep me occupied.

I would be bored to death if I stayed home.

I'd definitely quit my job. If I want to keep myself occupied I'll go back to school.

i understand that some of you really like your jobs and that's fine...but this is for those of you who would keep working because you feel you'd be bored....ok, you are millionaire..you can have the ability to travel anywhere you want, buy almost anything you want, time to learn anything you want, etc...i just dont know how someone could be bored when they could do anything they want, i would think it would be even more boring to work at the same job for the rest of your life.

For those who would continue in their present jobs: I am not a millionaire, but I am sure all the abuse, slights and shaftings you've had to suffer at the office will become a little more unacceptable, and having a job that monopolizes 9-10 hours a day 5 days a week will also become unacceptable.  Unless you are a totally unimaginative slug, you might see that it's a big world out there and decide to see it and experience new things.

How about quitting your job, taking a year to do things you never had the time or money for before, and if that's not working out, getting a new job?

That's an interesting topic here. Has anyone on here ever hit it big ? Give us some a clue as to how it feels.  Personaly I have been out of work for the better part of 19 months as some on here know, accident at work. I loved my job which is in the maritime industry and I traveled the world and was paid well for it. Had plenty of time off too to spend with my family. I have learned on thing from this extended stay at home and that is I no longer have any desire to retire if I ever return to work. Never thought I'd retire but now I know for sure. All of this means if I happen to come up with the right numbers, I will keep working if I can. On the other hand , if I had a job that caused me misery everytime I showed up for work. I'd probably buy the company and fire all those that caused the misery. Then I'd stop working.

                               Good Luck,

                              Blackie.
