Yeah, imagine what would have happened if a different Powerball number was picked!  There could have been ten jackpot winners!

with this many winners, i wouln't be too surprised if the $100,000 winners get less than $100,000. i bet they went over the liability cap.

Na Todd said that wouldn't happen.

you are correct. the liability is $25 million for the total lower prizes before they become pari-mutuel.

Correction.  $25 million plus 18% of sales (or however much is allocated to the total lower prizes) plus any funds carried over from previous drawings when there were fewer winners than expected.

I think that it WILL be interesting to see the percentage of those picks that were computer-generated.  There SHOULD be approximately 75% Quick Picks, so the actual distribution will determine if the numbers were popular ages (or something like that), or if there is a problem with the random number generators in the lottery machines favoring certain numbers.

Does anyone have any information on the average number or most 5+0 winners for the history of Powerball?

I'm pretty sure the last drawing set a record for total number of match 5+0 winners.

I believe 110 winners is a record. I checked the three previous record Powerball jackpots of $314.9, $295.7 and $294.8 million. Those three draws all had fewer than 110 winners. The largest had 91 second tier winners.

Now there may be another draw that did not have a large jackpot with more than 110 second tier winners. If there was a higher number, I expected to find it when tickets sales were at their highest (that is, record jackpots).

              Good luck,
              Jake

Why does it take 2 weeks for a person to get their Powerball check?

Because the state where the jackpot was hit has to get money from all the other states as well.

I can only imagine the sigh of relief the jackpot winner(s) felt when he/she/they realized how close so many other people came to forcing a shared jackpot.
