Even with the new matrix they're proposing, MM is STILL going to be too damned EASY to win.

So i say,

Make the first set of numbers like the old PA SUPER 6/69! 5/56 would be a CINCH.

Plus make 'em match 2 Mega Ball numbers for the jackpot prize, like EuroMillions!

Then get rid of the ping pong ball draw machines and use a DOS program on an  APPLE II to select the numbers!

And the winner will win 1,5 billion dollar since the jackpot won't be hit in the next 5 years?

If it wasn't for the RNG DOS program of course...

If Mega Millions is so damned easy to win, then why are players winning at the slowest rate ever this year?  This is the third straight run that made it past $100 million, something that has never happened before in either multi-state game.  There have been only 2 MM jackpot winners so far this year, compared to Powerball's seven.  I say the new 5/56 + 1/46 matrix is enough!

If there's a game that should change its matrix, it's Lotto South (currently 6/49).

sleepingdogslie is right, they should raise the odds of mm to at least 1:1,000,000,000  since it's sooooo easy to win.

                  ACTUALLY:

I think the odds are too high. Go figure that only 2 people have won this year compared to pb's 7.

Out of all that hogwash, I do like the 2 megaball/powerball idea.

A 5/39 + 2/25 matrix has odds of 1:172,727,100...very comparable to the proposed MM changes.  I guarantee sales would climb because people would think they have a better shot. What? You're telling me all I have to do is a standard Match 5/39 and then pick two other lousy numbers?  Cake!!

MegMillions and Powerball are really two lotteries, you have to match 3 in one or one in the other to win anything.  The odds of matching the bonus balls are 1:52 and 1:42 so the odds of getting your money back is 1:50 or so.  With a 2/25 bonus game, the odds of matching two and winning anything would be 1:300, do you really think players would prefer that?

I think the average quick-pick lottery player would love it.  It's a deceptively simple matrix...great for the hordes of lottery addicts.

You could set up lower tier prizes for matching just 1 of the bonus balls.

Then the odds of winning something would be 1:7, do you think the lottery commission could afford to be so generous and still keep the jackpot size attractive?

Setting up prizes for matching just one of two bonus balls would cut into the jackpot though.

AFAIK Euro Millions has 12 prize tiers because of the TWO mega balls.
