I have been going to the local casino in my state because I get a better return on my gambling money. Plus over the last two months I have found it more thrilling than just buying a ticket and waiting to see if your numbers come up. Any other thoughts on Casino vs Lottery?

I like the pay offs better at the Casino. Except, the big jackpot prizes never come close to the lottery. I noticed California Keno has payouts half the size of what Las Vegas Keno offers.
By the way, those casino profits may not go to the same places as the states, but it does create jobs, supports local businesses, and does support the same things as state lotteries via taxation. And are you really sure those dollars you thought were going to education didn't get re-allocated to something else?

I like casinos because of the incessant assaults on the ears by several hundred slot machines jingling, ringing, clanging, combined with a background of '60s music and constant messages over the PA system telling the owners of automobiles of various description to please report to their cars (a concept I find troublesome...., some owner standing at attention in front of his Jaguar, saluting, "Player Schultz reporting as directed, Sir!").
For me the gambling is secondary. I just like the people, the surroundings. I like watching all those folks staring at bizarre looking futuristic machines, mesmerized, plugging in money. Fascinating.
I also like the lottery, but for different reasons.

It depends.
In Norway most of the lottery money goes to sponsor building of stadiums, sportshalls and arenas for amateur sports and to support culture to some degree, while in USA most of it seems to go to education.
Sorry I didn't make that clear in the first post.

I pick casino & lottery. There both fun. I agree, better return at casino. I went to my local casino last night, while I was there a woman hit a progressive five dollar slot for $315,000. Maybe one day my time will come.

I like gambling period. However both games favor the house. When in a casino if you get on a lucky streak and draw attention to yourself because you are winning the employees start scrutinizing your methods to see if you are cheating. If you continuously win in casinos they think your doing something to beat the odds. Want to kick you out because you are winning. Casinos don't like paying out their money even though the money they earn was given to them by people trying to beat the odds. I'd get really nervous if at the 21 table or craps table if i started winning big bucks to have some cooler muscle in on my thunder and try and get me to stop playing or pull me out of the game for a talking too. Like just because your good at counting cards they want to pull you out of the game. After all isn't the idea to go there to win. Casinos don't like that one bit.

You and I agree on a surprising lot of things, Four4me. Although they haven't had them pull me out for a talking to, at times I'd thought they might. But while the pit bosses come and watch my play a lot, the dealers like me at the table pretty well. I push out a good tip on the hands I think are going to win, so the dealers win with me, and the casino where I play is close enough so's I don't have try to do anything big on any single trip.
I also tend to give other winners at the table a bit of low-level, tongue-in-cheek reminding about what a low-paying job dealing is and what a shame it is when they're dealing winning hands to greedy low-life cheapos who don't push out a tip now and again.
The pit bosses are careful not to get too friendly, not to glad-hand me the way they do a lot of the big spenders, but they always say hi, which is all I want from them. There are a couple of other old guys who do about what I do, come in frequently, go home with modest wins the casino won't miss, are colorful enough and good enough players to make people want to be at the table they're playing on. Nobody offers them any comps except coffee, but they seem to be welcome.
I've noticed they like it a lot less when I play between 1am and 4am, when the dealers are zombie cold and it's possible to empty the tray in an hour of good play, even though there aren't many players.

Each choice has its pros and cons. For instant gratification, casinos are the answer! You'll know within seconds if your money *hit*. Playing lottery is fun as a speculative venture. One sits anticipating if there ticket is the winning combination. It varies depending on game and amount of investment.
As to casinos, Vegas is the only place I have gone to gain over the house. Ive been to ones in Indianna, Louisianna and California, none seem anywhere near the fun and pay out as Vegas. The downside of Vegas is simple....if you hit well, the cashier (payout attendent) is *expecting* a 10% tip from the winnings. I am against tipping someone else for merely counting back my winnings. If he/she had invested then I could see giving a share back.

I like to support the lottery more than I do a casino. Our lottery in Michigan gives all of its profits to education and education is something I am passionate about. On the other hand the casinos in Michigan are mostly tribal ran. They get all the free stuff they want already. I do gamble at casinos but dont support them (besides financially :) )
