Now it's time for the Combinatorial Base Set and Permutational Form Set examples.

We have seen how to sort the PICK 4 data in ascending order.

The ascending order can be used to find the Combinatorial Base Set and Permutational Form Set of a PICK 4 data set.

I had to make a small change in the presentation order of the Permutational Basic Form Set.

Previously I had stated that the Permutational Basic Form Set was:

        Previous Order of Basic From
        A A A A  A A A B  A B B B  A A B B  A A B C  A B B C  A B C C  A B C D

I've made a slight reorder that is mostly related to logical arguments within certain functions, however, it should be transparent to you.

        Updated Order of Basic Form
        A A A A  A A A B  A A B B  A B B B  A A B C  A B B C  A B C C  A B C D

Here's a sample of the Excel spreadsheet I've come up with:

       UNSORTED SORTED  |---Combinatorial---| |----------Permutational-----------|
                 BaseSet  Basic Form

            retxx,

Everything in the spreadsheet is changeable, including the PICK 3 and PICK 4 data.

This a sample Excel spreadsheet and can be adapted to different states.

You may need to do some copy and paste within the spreadsheet to get additional rows filled under certain columns, but that's basic Excel stuff you should know.

Click on the links for the PICK 3 or PICK 4 data and save to your computer.

Open the PICK 3 or PICK 4 file on your computer with Excel or some other program that can read and edit the spreadsheet.

If you don't have Excel or a program that can read and edit the spreadsheet, well, can't help you out there.

                retxx,

I recommend you purchase some "How to use..." or "Introduction to..." books on Excel or something similar.

Also, the full version of Microsoft Office Excel has some tutorials on "How to..." online.

I have added an 'UPDATED ->' tag and date to the spreadsheets in the upper left cells, A1 and B1.

One of the fucntions in the calculation of the Combinatorial Set Item Number had a finger check error.

Also, if there are any additional ideas or concepts I'd like to add, you'll know right away by the 'UPDATED ->' tag.

Thank you for the feedback....  good or bad, I need it.

At times though, I'm my own worst critic.

Interesting concept...  I'll check it out.

                                       BaseSet  Basic Form

wouldn't sort of the four digit be easier using the following?

                              col. E... =LARGE(A1:D1, 4)

                              col. F...  =LARGE(A1:D1, 3)

                              col. G...  =LARGE(A1:D1, 2)

                              col. H...  =LARGE(A1:D1, 1)
