My vote is for over 3 hours. That's because my trip between Concord, California to the Nevada/California border on Exit #2 on I-80 in Verdi, NV if I buy CA SLP tickets.

I play MM in MD or NJ. When the JP is over 100 million I make all my runs to NJ (no state tax on winnings). Unlike MD (the thieves). Besides the family and I make a day out of it when going to NJ for MM tickets.

There is no need to jump borders or drive anywhere to buy lottery tickets. The Massachusetts lottery offers a subscription service you can use from the privacy of your own home. There are no residency requirements, you can live in Hawaii and play the Massachusetts lottery games. You can order your subscription by telephone, they have a toll free number. They send the subscription by UPS, so they charge $4 for that, they can't send them by the postal service.
This is not true for all games, just the Massachusetts games, not MegaMillions. I come from Boston and when I moved here I called the Mass Lottery and was told I could not purchase MM tickets by mail or by using the toll free number because I now live out-of-state. I called again last year after some laws were changed and was told the exact same thing. Here is a line I copied directly from the Mass Lottery site. You told me I was wrong before, so I'll drop it. I only know what I'm told and what I read. You also told me you've purchased MM tickets by subscription from the Mass Lottery, which I believe isn't possible (from the UK?) unless what I see below and what the people who work there are telling me is false.
10. QUESTION: Can non-residents play the game? If so, how do they collect? 10. ANSWER: Yes, anyone 18 and over can purchase Lottery product at any agent location. All players can collect their prizes at the same locations listed in question four. Additionally, Season Tickets can be purchased directly from any sales agent while in the state or from out of state, by calling l-800-222-TKTS. The ticket can be registered in the owner's name by completing and returning the registration form to the Lottery. Season Tickets are available for Megabucks, Mass Cash, Mega Millions and Cash Winfall. NOTE: Mega Millions Season Tickets are NOT available from out of state through the 800 number listed above.
and...
Visit your local Lottery Agent or call the Massachusetts State Lottery at 1-800-222-8587. PLEASE NOTE: Mega Millions Season Tickets CANNOT be purchased via phone from out of state.
You write: "They send the subscription by UPS, so they charge $4 for that, they can't send them by the postal service. "Where are you getting this information?
From the Mass Lottery site:
12. QUESTION: How do Season Ticket holders receive their prize? 12. ANSWER:. All prizes, with the exception of the jackpot prize are mailed directly to the owner. The lower tier prize payments are mailed after complying with the Massachusetts State Lottery's request for Social Security number. Jackpot prize winners are notified to come to the Braintree office to claim their prize.

For MegaMillions I travel once a month to Maryland. Get my plays and go shopping at White Marsh.
Its a 35 minute jaunt from my town to the Mason Dixon line.
Its being debated that since I joined a ticket service I might use them to save on gas and travel time. After all, time is money!
I don't mind that MD has a tax on lottery..(wish it didnt) but if Im going to win let that be my gift to Maryland for using their roads (which are far better repaired then PA roads) . Besides my aunt lives in that lovely state !

When I lived in Louisiana, I was about 35 miles from the TX border. I drove there sometimes when I felt lucky. I live in NM now and I'm about 25 miles from TX. I'll get tickets while I'm there. But that's not the primary reason I go there and I go pretty often.

TX (and where I live, NY) still has that stupid rule requiring players to choose cash or annuity when they play. More NYers and Texans would collect in lump sum if players could choose after winning.
