I'm reading alot about Michigan Lottery winners and most of them rarely play the lottery.  Some play once a month.. some play their first time.  I never hear about people who win that plays all the time.  Does anybody feel the same way?

Good topic here .....yes i DO find the lottery a little suspicious..1-all the winning #'s are usually quick picks and 2- the majority of the winners are ALREADY financially SECURE...........(jmo)

I've had my suspicions about lotteries for a while. I mean regular player like on this site should be hitting the jackpot by now. Whats going on?

I'll tell you what irks me :

When someone wins a huge jackpot and they say " I usually never play, I just heard the JP was big and I thought "what the heck "..

I mean, I'm probably more jealous than mad, but GEEZ,,,

First time winners?  It seems everytime I look at the press releases on the Michigan Lottery's website it says they have been playing the lottery since it began in the 70's or at least for many years.  It might just be me but I think there is a good balance between newbies and oldies.

Do you think they really only play the lottery once in a while, or do you suppose that some of them just say that because some of their relatives consider playing the lottery or any gambling a sin?  And they just don't want their relatives to know just how "sinful" they are.  Maybe some of their spouses don't even know how much they play the lottery, and they don't want the spouse to know that they have been spending family budget dollars that should have gone elsewhere for years.

That is acutally funny....I just thought of the same thing and was going to comment on that...but Uff Da! already covered it. That is a very possible explanation. People are just not telling the truth.

Anyone trying to pull the wool over the people's eyes woudn't leave tell tale signs for everyone to decipher. It's like if a bankrobber mistakenly leaves a red bandana with his name on it, at every bank he robs.

I think it's just the incredible odds being matched with unlikely people. As many people who are out there, including us, here at the LP, the majority are the ones just buying a few Qps or their own selection. And that's alot of them. And also of course, the inevitablity for " if something can go wrong, it will ".

It would make more sense that people who study the numbers should statistically win more than the average Joe, however both Life and Rip Snorter have pointed out many times before, "Who said life is fair anyway?".

That's what I should do. To win the pick 3, I'll choose, not the numbers most likely to come out, but just the exact opposite. Narrow it down to the most un-thinkable combo.  LOL

Could just be an advertising scheme by the lotteries when they have a non regular player hit something big.
Advertising like that could bring in more non regulars.
Toss some bait out and catch more players.

You mean they coerce the winners to claim that they really didn't play that often, but did? I don't know about that one.....

I've read that it's easier to win something if you don't try too hard .... it's ok if you do win, ok if you don't.... so it' seasier for infrequent players to let go, let it happen.

Kind of like the winner who forgot to check his tickets until about a week after the drawing.

                            Good luck to everyone!
