Pac:

I'm not sure what you're disagreeing with.

Anything we do can go sour, whether it's enlisting, marrying, starting a business, anything.

When a man gets into a lousy marriage or business and comes out the other end he might have lost a lot, but he can't be said to have 'sacrificed'.

A person who got himself drafted or volunteered for the military and came back in a body bag or a wheelchair mightn't have figured on that being the price, but that's how it played out.  Memorial Day was invented in 1882 as a day for remembering those it happened to.

Nothing much about that to disagree about.

Absorb the good, ignore the bad, weigh the ugly.

It's about number behavior.

Egos don't count.

    I Agree!  Well said, Jack.

One more thing that I need to add:

The inevitable " Happy Memorial Day " from a cashier or server today...

There's nothing HAPPY about the true sacrifices made.

Just a simple "Have a good Memorial Day and don't forget who gave it to you"  would be appropriate and appreciated...
