This is the craziest thing I have ever heard of. Can you imagine how much money they are going to be losing. New Jersey is a huge lottery state.
Is it just the lottery, or is the entire state of New Jersey shutting down.
They did this once in a episode of the "West Wing" when the government couldn't agree on a budget they just shut the government down. Is this what is happening in NJ?

Brad, it's just not the Lottery. The casinos, all state run programs. This so-called governor is the pits. His tatics to over-ride others and their solutions by shutting down state government is totally uncalled for...! YES, that is what is happening.!

I am in nj. Just so you know, I didn't vote for Moneybags. I saw this kind of nonsense coming when people decided to vote for whoever the democrat was, even if it were Satan himself. I remember Christie Whitman shaking my hand AT the Racetrack a few years ago. How many people voted for THIS FLAMING JACKASS that are also regular Lottery players and would be really upset even to miss a few days of it. Will they be STUPID ENOUGH to vote for him next time? Or ANY democrat? Some people are convinced that the Republicans are the root of all evil because that's what the left-wing media drills into their brains. They didn't learn from McGreedy's antics. Corzine is punishing the very people that were brainwashed into voting for him by taking away things they enjoy.. but also the DMV IS BEING SHUT DOWN! I can't wait until some Corzine worshipper is pulled over for an expired tag because they couldn't renew it. I'm going to remind people when this guy is running again (if he isn't impeached by then) of how his temper tantrum caused hardship for millions of people. The Casinos, the Lottery, the Races... that's a disappointment.. but the other things with it is UNACCEPTABLE!!!
You know what? I'm playing in PA and NY until King Jon ends this nonsense.. and maybe even beyond that.

They are still going to do the drawings because of advanced ticket sales. If you play online you can still get a piece fo these then. some order of 128 in the midday and 918 or 913 in the evening game.
Best of Luck,
Bryan :)
Attention Lottery Customers and Retailers
“Due to the State budget impasse, the New Jersey Lottery has ceased normal operations. The Lottery has directed all agents to cease all ticket sales, effective 7:55 pm, Saturday, July 1, 2006. All lottery terminals will be shut down after the July 1 drawing at 7:55 pm. There will be no ticket sales (including instant tickets), winning ticket validation, claim payments or any activity on the “Green Machine” terminals after 7:55 pm Saturday.
“Due to advanced ticket sales, the Lottery will direct essential staff to conduct the regularly scheduled drawings for these tickets at Lottery headquarters under the observation of Mercadien PC, Certified Public Accountants. Drawing results will be available on the Lottery's website, www.njlottery.net . Payment of claims, however, is not authorized until a new budget is in place.
“Once authorized through a new State budget, the New Jersey Lottery will resume regular operations.”

Just so you know, Christie Whitman is the cause of the State's bankruptcy. She is the originator of the idea that you don't have to pay for what you get. She cut income taxes for her rich friends, and started using accounting tricks and outright fraud to run up big debts. McGreevey was fool because he didn't have the courage to face that fact, but the fact is that unless you pay for what you get, you go bankrupt.
This should be obvious but for some reason, people find it mathematically challenging. There are no people quite as ignorant of mathematics as Americans. I've been all around the world, and I have never seen anything like this country and its myths.
Within a few years, the Chinese owners of the United States will call in the bill, if they don't do so sooner. Your country is bankrupt. It's been sold to Halliburton at bargain basement prices. While your country is being looted, the rich are squirreling away their money overseas in foreign securties, just as I would if I won the lottery.
If a Democrat happens to be President at the time, you will jump up and blame him, but it will be your fault. While your country was being looted, you were worried about an amendment over the US flag.
I think John Corzine isn't handling this situation very well, but the fact is that he is a businessman. Businessmen approach finance very differently than politicians. They can tell what a balance sheet is.
If you think New Jersey's bad, you haven't seen anything yet. Wait until this game goes national. No, I'm not talking about the lottery.

They gave Corzine a budget and he refused to sign it because it didn't include the sales tax increase and some things HE liked were cut. Even if Whitman "caused" the problem somehow the solution is not to punish the voters over it. McGreedy could have done something about it but he was too busy having a gay affair. I don't get the thing about the Lottery being a "state spending" thing because mostly THEY make $ from the players (or it couldn't exist) and I don't get how the DMV is not an essential service and when Whitman ran she didn't say anything about promising to cut taxes to rich friends. I remember her as a good person and life being a lot better when she was in office. The Libs are just afraid that if a Republican gets in they might let people pray in School (Heaven forbid!) or to abolish the "death penalty" for babies.
Anyway.. wouldn't Whitman and McGreedy have been required in the same way to balance the budget? How come it only applies now? And can Moneybags convince me that I'm somehow going to benefit from this nonsense? Will the extra 1% mean one less unexpected pothole here and there? Or used to give convicted rapists in prison free MTV?
I have written to the Governor's office to protest this utter nonsense. and PS: yes you DO have to keep paying any taxes "due and owing" to the State.

i agree with lary....i am seeing this from my perspective, which is blue collar...i mean as most people i know live paycheck to paycheck...now how can someone with "millions" of dollars sitting in the bank possibly know what will help the "voters"???don't bite the hand that feeds you corzine....obviusly this is deeper than just the stupid lottery..i am mad,(as i assume most people in new jersey are) because this will affect many people on many levels for a long time to come...i do agree that this goes back a long way but as lary said it should have been dealt with from the preceeding governers.... i didn't post any of this to start a political debate,it was really just an FYI and to vent about this wonderful state..so if this is getting off topic i apologize....

I bet they will have this figured out by next Friday at the lastest. These things never usually last long because of the implications these actions cause.
But you can't just blame the governor. He has this power for a reason. He felt like he needed to make a statement and he is doing the best thing (according to him). Let's just hope they reach an agreement soon.
