Legendary Singer James Brown Dies at 73
Dec 25 4:15 AM US/Eastern

ATLANTA

James Brown, the dynamic, pompadoured "Godfather of Soul," whose rasping vocals and revolutionary rhythms made him a founder of rap, funk and disco as well, died early Monday, his agent said. He was 73.

Brown was hospitalized with pneumonia at Emory Crawford Long Hospital on Sunday and died around 1:45 a.m. Monday, said his agent, Frank Copsidas of Intrigue Music. Longtime friend Charles Bobbit was by his side, he said.

The following is quoted from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame homepage: "By the late Sixties, Brown had attained the status of a musical and cultural revolutionary, owing to his message of black pride and self-sufficiency. In the late Sixties and early Seventies, such message songs as 'Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud' reverberated throughout the black community, within which he was regarded as a leader and role model."

I saw James Brown in concert several times. He really knew how to put on a good show. I always loved to see him do the Camel Walk. Cold Sweat was the first record I ever bought in my life; it was on a 45RPM disk. I still have an extensive collection of his music on LPs. Hearing his music always takes me back.

James Brown was known variously as "Soul Brother #1", "The Hardest Workin' Man In Show Business", and "The King of Soul". He was certainly a nonpareil in the music industry: often imitated, but never duplicated. His influence in music will live on forever.

Thank you, JB. You gave us all a lot of good times and memories.

I will solely miss James Brown. I grew up in New Orleans. And about this time, everyone use to wait with anticipation for James Brown's New release to come out at the beginning of each new year. He never disappointed his fans. His music was ahead of his time and can still blend in with today's music as witnessed by the many rappers that has sampled his music. As a former drummer, I can recognize his music anywhere. James Brown went out doing what he enjoyed doing the most, that's entertaining.US Flag
