I hadn't played F5 EZ Match in a while and decided to buy some tickets. I gave a new clerk i'd never seen a generic QP w/EZ match card marked for 10 tickets and handed the card and a $20 bill to him . It was a side register and I could not see behind the high partician. I saw him load the card, then look down like something was wrong , seemed he took WAyyyy too long ...time passed as he kept looking down , then he loaded the card again , waited got the tickets, came over and handed them to me . Made me wonder, Was He looking for an instant winner to pocket , and pay the register out of his pocket later, then give me the next batch to come up off the same generic ticket ? There are no Bells that go off if you have an EZ match win , I don't think ..., and that's what I think COULD HAVE happened, as I had no wins . Makes you wonder ??

It is possible. You may want to contact the lottery office and express your concern about this possibility. If the clerk re-ran the play card a second time (keeping the first one if it was an EZ Match winner), they can track that, especially if you still have the original ticket.
It could also be the clerk was unfamiliar with the machine or the machine was down temporarily.
Lottery officials are interested in possible cases of shady retailers and they can take action if necessary.

Sometimes the cards don't go through the first time, the same way you might have to swipe your credit card a couple of times before it's read correctly. It happens to me all the time when I hand a clerk my Lotto cards. I'm not saying you're wrong, but if it bothers you then you might want to find a store where everything is in plain site. Whether or not you know someone doesn't mean a thing. Bob Sehested in CA won $530,000 and he knew the clerk who ripped him off for years. I'm sure you can Google his name to read the story.

It hard to get ripped off when you buy EZ picks or QPs before the drawing because the clerk can't know if any of your tickets are going to win. According to the odds printed on the back of most Pick5 play slips, nine of ten times you buy $10 worth of tickets, you're lucky to win $1 back.
With that in mind I just noticed the Ohio Rolling Cash5 rolled to $400+ tonight and I just got done adding some revisions to my lottery program so Friday 13 will be a good day to test it with $10 worth of tickets but I will be picking my numbers myself, no EZ picks for me.

RJOh, what Sector is talking about is different. Florida's Fantasy 5 has something called EZ match which is an instant win.
That's different, I was thinking it was a regular Pick5 game. I guess if some clerks could see their customers had winners before they could, they might be tempted to keep the winners and run the ticket again for the customers.

Many years ago in NY, I tested the honesty of this particular clerk by asking him to check my tickets for winners. Of course I had a win of about 5 bucks or something. Lo and behold, this guy told me it wasn't a winner.
You should have seen the look on his face when I told that it was a winner. He was stumbling for words left and right...lol
Most of them are honest and ask me if I want the losing ticket back.
The reason I did the test was because I read somewhere that there were some clerks caught in the act with bigger prizes. Unfortunately, the customers didn't know if their ticket was a winner or not.

I'm reminded of the time when I purchased a few scratch off tickets, and won about $10.00 - when I returned to the same store to collect, they would not pay me. Apparently, the tickets were old and should not have been sold in the first place. They said I had to call the lottery office to get reimbursed. I asked them why they were selling old tickets and they couldn't give me a straight answer! What a rip-off!

That's an interesting subject. I was wondering what happens to the expired instant game tickets. I assumed the retailer had to return them to the Lottery once they were no longer available for sale.
In fact, that's the only thing that makes any sense, since they could otherwise just go through all the piles and scratch them off to see if they were winners on the final days, right? So that's why I thought all tickets had to be accounted for by the stores. There's no way he would have known what day the ticket was sold on anyway unless you came back after the final day to collect.
I don't know how this could happen to you. They obviously didn't want to pay you and should have been reported to the Lottery. There's a difference between the expiration date and the last day you can collect your money. The Lottery usually gives players a minimum of 60 days to turn in a scratcher for cash. Example - here are some FL games that ended last month. The first date is the last day of sale and the second is the final day to redeem your prize. I'm guessing that on June 29 all retailers in FL had to remove the below listed tickets from their counters.

Thanks for the information - and you're right - they should have been reported. I bought about seven 'Magic 3's' tickets, which I still have.
I checked on the New York State Lottery's Instant ticket End of Schedule board, and the last date to cash in those tickets was in January 2007. I purchased the tickets a few months ago, probably around March or April. How could they still have had those tickets for sale if the last date to cash them in was in January?

Did you hear the ticket print after he ran the playslip the first time? If you don't care of the situation right there on the spot, there really isn't much you can do. Reporting them to the lottery office wouldn't be a good idea now because you don't know for a fact that the clerk legitimately reran the playslip, which could have been the case. I'm not saying he did or didn't rip you off, but if you feel like the clerk's up to no good, then speak up right then.

Expired, or about to expire, tickets are all handled by the store's Lottery Rep. The Lottery has reps for all the stores and they will pull the old tickets on or before the "end-of-game" dates (these are actually the end of sale dates). There is an additional time limit after the "end-of-game" dates to cash the tickets in. It is their responsibility to make sure no tickets are sold after the official "end of game" dates. These dates are usually printed in local newspaper ads the Lottery does (at least in Florida).
