Just for the purposes of this poll only one can win....

there is no both....

discards are simply cop outs.

Be honest! If not with the poll at least within yourself. :)

You live a life of abundance! You have won the lottery! Belief creates reality! Believe!

    I chose myself.

I simply don't understand the drive you have to make people feel bad about giving to whomever they want. No one is trying to change the world, as you state over and over and over again.

No one expects to save the world. You can post here a million times until your fingers become raw, and I'll bet you a million bucks that you'll never ever change anyone's mind if they are set in helping a neighbor or friend or local food bank.

    What part don't you get?

I come to LP to read and be a part of discussions about what other lottery players are doing to win and lately many of the discussions have been about who deserve to win a lottery jackpot or the moral obligations of an undeserving winner to give his lottery winnings away to the needy or those more deserving than himself.

I'm not needy but I feel I deserved to win a jackpot as much as anyone else who plays or I wouldn't play.  And I also feel how a winner spend his lottery fortune is his business.

          I voted "yourself".

Whoever anyone would  be thinking of hitting instead of them- there's no guarantee they would keep that person in mind of they hit.

You may or may not keep them in mind, but at least it will be your call.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

          Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

Well you see I came to lottery post to see how other winners are handling their win. However as I looked over the pages I saw all these posts over and over again regarding people talking about "how they would help out charity or others if they won" putting so much focus on it in some cases..

So I decieded to hang here off and on when I wasn't busy for people like yourself who would just like to focus on winning then keep to themselves how they would help out the world if they have or did win. By putting up some questions and thoughts regarding those who see to think winning the lottery has to do with a person's level of altruism. It hasn't nothing to do with that.

One of the posters above by looking at this website seems to post a "how would you donate to charity" question every couple of weeks like clockwork. So people like those things private including myself. However being the kind of person I am I decieded to ask some hard questions that eventually would lead to this question in this poll.

Some people don't wanna deal with these types of questions in themselves. However in the event of a large windfall they will have to deal with even harder questions. As I well know.

I sincerely hope you all win as well. But remember this is not an altruism site and don't spend time playing into the whole idea that "you deserve to win because you are a good person" because it will only lead to feelings of resentment on your part eventually...

Rather feel you 'deserve to win just because"

Feeling pride in yourself because you intend to do something is rediculas at best lol... that statement was not directed to you RJOh whatsoever... it was directed to some others who have that toxic mindset.

So yeah RJOh I am glad someone else sees what I am talking about and these posts I have made lately were definately to help others like you who find them ironic and pointless as well by getting those people who feel some perverse pride in their altruistic intentions the operative word being intentions.

Now that I've made my point.. I may or may not check back from time to time to see how you are all doing....

              Now go WIN SOMETHING!!!!! :)

I agree. Whether it's lottery, real estate, casino play, or stocks; the person who risks his money "deserves" any such reward that comes out of it. Everyone else is acting like those characters in "The Little Red Hen". It makes me nervous when people sit around and want to decide who "needs" my money, property or anything else more than I do (especially if they can vote). Too many people who "need it more" never can bring themselves to "work as hard"

The poll as written is rather, well . . . "strange" to put it politely.

With a decent size jackpot, I would probably give more to others or to charities than just about anyone here.  But like most others, I chose "myself" because in so doing I could apportion my gift to various people in relation to the amount I felt they needed to bring their standard of living up to a reasonable level.  I could also control the timing of gifts for those who would be unlikely to manage their money well.  In the last statement I am thinking in particular about one person who is unable to work due to a serious physical disability, but who is also bipolar.  If given a lump sum, I have no doubt she would blow it during one of her manic episodes, whereas if I paid for her rent in a better location, for some of her medical expenses, etc., she would have a better life over a period of time.  Why would I want to choose "A needy person I would want to help out if I won" and help just one person when I could choose "myself" and possibly help out 20 or more.  Doesn't make any sense to me.

Like pacattack, I don't see why you keep trying to convince others not to donate or give gifts.  If you don't want to, fine.  If others want to, fine.  If you don't want to read about others doing so, then ignore those threads or posts.  And if you don't want others to write about it, then why do you do so?

Another vote for ME...also my favorite charity. I watched "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" tonight and was reminded how many people are so much less fortunate than me, BUT...the money would be at my discretion at all times. If I'm the dumb schmuck who is pissing away cash from his paycheck year after year chasing a dream that, in all likelihood, won't happen, you can be damn sure I'm keeping it if it does happen.

Now...I'm not entirely selfish. Life would become much easier for my family and closest friends, and I would give tons to charities that I wish I could give to now, with or without 501(c)3 status. But you can bet I'd be living pretty well and not giving a cent to any of the offers that would flood my new post office box that were unsolicited. I don't care for bottomfeeders who look for money because I'd be the newest overnight millionaire.

I think polls like this are popping up all over the LP forum because members are realizing that they aren't likely to win a jackpot and their best chance of getting their hands on even a potion of a lottery jackpot is for someone else to give it to them but things don't work that way, even friends or relatives who win a lottery jackpot aren't likely to share it with them and wishing it was so is not going to change it.

I play the lottery to win a jackpot for myself.  Nothing irks me more when I'm buying tickets than a total stranger saying to me "You got the winner there? Remember me if you win."  I'm thinking to myself that fool is jinxing me and I want to reply "I don't know you and don't plan to know you if I win." but I say nothing, pay for my tickets and leave.
