What about the man in MA who won $10 million in February?
Do we know what his crime was? He could have urinated on the sidewalk or exposed himself. He also could have been 22 and had sex with a 16 year old, depending on the laws of the state. He could have crossed the state line with a minor. Where does it say this man is a child molester? This is Lottery Post, not Nancy Grace.
In any case, I spit on sex offenders. However, just like MaddMike wrote, he served his time, so he has the right to play the lottery and win just like everyone else.
Maybe he'll turn is life around. However, if he's a serial rapist or a predator of children, it's been proven that these people will offend again and should never be released from jail.
EDIT: The man was serving time for having sex with a 13 year old girl. Okay - I just changed my mind. Shoot the lousy piece of dirt.

He'll committ another sex crime, child molesters always do.We had a child molester in our town that had been convicted and sent to prison three times. On the fourth offense the judge just sentenced him to so much time that he can't possibly live long enough to serve it all. He'll die in prison unless he lives to be 485 years old.

Glad you changed your mind there. Anyway, Daniel Snay (the MA winner) is a level 3 sex offender which means he is high risk. So it was certainly something more than that. Even Fred Topous is a saint compared to this guy, there's some details in the links below.
And a story from before the news of his past broke: http://www.milforddailynews.com/homepage/x698992905
Here's another story which is about Freddy not having to pay back the state and more details on what happened. Looks like there probably won't be any kind of civil case from the details mentioned. As I figured his plea was to something lesser, even with those details there's no excuse and you sure as hell don't take a plea like that if you're innocent unless you have a very bad and stupid lawyer.

Not just some guy. He is a registered sex offender who got a prison time for attempt to rape.
There are a lot of bad things that happened before this guy won the lottery and a lot of bad things will continue to happen. (Rapes, murder, natural disasters, etc. etc.) Was God a sicko in your eyes then? Or is he just a sicko now because some perv won the lottery?
ETA: People make their choices. God didn't make this guy rape anyone. He did that on his own free will. God didn't hand this guy a ticket to reward him. The guy went to the store, bought $5.00 worth of qp's and was lucky enough to pick the right numbers.

Yeah, it seems Todd is really busy so this hasn't been put up yet. Isent it to him yesterday afternoon... Anyway, yeah we didn't know how old the victim was but now that it's come out (as I expected it would) there are no good feelings toward the guy, there's nothing that can excuse that. He's spent 15 of the last 20 years in prison from three different crimes (he was sentenced at the same time for two of them that were committed two years apart), all three were probably reduced to lesser charges due to his taking a plea deal in each case. If he were smart he wouldn't have gone to the the lottery office the next day to claim it and tried to claim it without his name getting out, or even gave his ticket to either his wife or children to claim for him.
I'd say "fine" to his doing his time for the two "Breaking & Entering a Building With Intent" cases but "Assault With Intent to Commit Sexual Penetration" (sounds like a plea down from attempted rape to me) is inexcusable, especially a 13 year old girl. Fall hard indeed, hopefully without taking his wife and kids with him. This seems to be a perfect time for his wife to end up dumping him and getting at least half of the winnings and the victim coming about and filing a civil suit for the other half, if that's still possible. Granted we don't know what kind of people his wife (if she's the mother to the kids and they've been married all this time) and kids are but they seem to have been victims too of this guys two 24 years of stupidity and I doubt that'll change now that he has millions of dollars, hopefully they at least will be able to live better lives.
Yes, If I remember the article, it was a plea down from attempted rape. I too think the others are bad (breaking and entering) but some do stupid things from stupid reasons....drugs, paybacks, easy money etc. But this one is the worst. I DO understand those who don't want to judge, as "he" is the one true judge. I think its just the stigma that will follow him around forever.. once a sex offender, always a sex offender no matter when your registry expires. You never lose that "brand". Maybe if someone met him out of the blue and said that guys a real nice guy...then someone says "him? Oh ya he's a registered sex offender to a child" I'd be like ok.........I'm staying away and so are my kids. Then they finish by saying "Ya, 2 years after he got out he registered his residence as *such and such street*...now he reregistered to that mansion you see up on the hill there thanks to a lottery jackpot win last week." I too would scratch my head and say thats B.S. lol I think its more (for me....and I'm not talking about the lord having anything to do with it) that "he" won that gets me.. And after getting out of the pokie just 2 years ago! Luck fell on the wrong person. Debt to society paid (I guess) but I'm wondering what his victims family is thinking just about now. I would be soooo p/o'd that the guy who abused my daughter had such luck. And thats what I call it...luck.
You can run, but you can't hide mighty Jackpot...surrender to me at once!

All that needs to be said is, Yes he served his time. But now that he has the ability to make restitution to the state for his prison stay, he should have to pay-up! And also now make restitution to the victim(s) of his last crime spree that he was convicted of and went to prison for!
Keep dreaming the impossible dream, it just may come true!

I don't think anyone "deserves" to win the lottery anymore than anyone else. That's sort of the point of it -- that anyone can win it. But as I posted in the news thread, as a victim of sexual assault myself, I can tell you that the idea that the man who assaulted me (or someone like him) could win millions of dollars and be living the kind of live that I will likely never have makes me sick to my stomach. I'll be honest -- there's a part of me that thinks men like him should be living in the dirt for the rest of their lives, as punishment for what they have done, not living the high life with millions of dollars.
I'm of the opinion that the kind of person who perpetrates an assault like that is never "cured" or rehabilitated, especially when it involves minors. Only a sick mind could think of doing that kind of thing in the first place, and sending them to prison doesn't cure them of that sickness. Yes, they serve their time, but doing so never removes the hurt that they did to their victim(s), and you'll excuse me, I hope, for not caring if they are watched like hawks, and have to register as sex-offenders, etc. for the rest of their lives. If this man actually has "changed" for the good, then he should start atoning for his (what appear to be serious) past crimes by using the money he has won for the better good of his victims and others like them. But I really doubt that will happen.

"He's (Fred Topous) also on the Michigan Sex Offender Registry for committing a criminal sexual assault with the intent to commit penetration. He registered in 1999, and is compliant."
Ever watch "To Catch a Predator" on Dateline NBC?
I don't know all the details about Topous' conviction, but in some states just the intent will get them jail time and require them to register as sex offenders. But unless there is a law preventing sex offenders or convicted felons from buying lottery tickets, some of them will win whether we like it or not.
Maybe next time somebody starts a poll with reasons to remain anonymous, "the winner is a sex offender" will be added.
