FALL RIVER, Mass. — A Massachusetts man won $1,000 and $1 million dollars from two scratch-off lottery tickets on the same day.

Phillip Brunelle, 29, of Fall River, said he was so excited about winning $1,000 on a scratch-off ticket at a convenience store that he decided to return to the store later to buy another $5 Money Mania ticket, WCVB-TV, Boston, reported Monday.

"I already won $1,000, so I don't know why I went back down. I guess I'm greedy," Brunelle said.

He said he used his "lucky penny" to uncover the $1 million prize on the second ticket, which the Massachusetts State Lottery said players have a 1 in 3 million chance of winning.

Brunelle, a photographer, said he plans to use his money to open new studios and help out his mother, who suffers from cerebral palsy.

"I'm going to try to help her out, get her a new car or newer car, so she does not have to depend on everyone else to do everything for her," he said. "Without her, I wouldn't be here."

Thanks to truesee for the tip.

Wow, that's some great luck right there. Good for him.

For me, it's more like me going and buying a $5 ticket, winning nothing and getting pissed, going and buying another and losing, and then going home. LMAO...maybe someday

I don't think he was greedy to go back and by more tickets. If he hadn't, he wouldn't have won the million dollars. Congrats to him! He was very lucky!

I agree.  Also, it's very natural to buy more tickets when you win.  I haven't won a dime in months so I am really down & out and don't want to play too much.  But when I win even $100, I always buy a few extra tickets. Doesn't make sense, since I'm still behind, but it's that positive feeling you get like "I'm on a roll" that makes you do it.  People like Coin Toss who worked in casinos understand what I'm talking about.  Once I was so frustrated because I played for hours and never won anything.  Then I had dozens of chips on the table and, although I wasn't up for the week, it felt really good.  (which is why I bet them and walked away with nothing!)  This man was very, very lucky.  He also didn't have to spend too much of his winnings (just $5) to win more, which is also nice.

now I dont think he only spend $5 on the second ticket. The lottery commissions never say the number of tickets an individual bought when they hit the jackpot, they only announce the value of the lucky ticket. You see they would never want to discourage people who play $1 at a time by informing them that a jackpot winner shelled $50 at once. It's all mind control.

Maybe I'm reading the article incorrectly.  It sounds as if he didn't spend a lot, but maybe he blew $100 or more.

justxploring,

How right you are about casinos. The bosses always say this, "If they win, they bring it back (the money the won), if they lose, they go home and get more of their own (once again meaning money), but they always come back."

Another is, "Nobody really wins, they just get to borrow our money for awhile."

That's one of the big draws of lotto, the potential win "relative to the buy in" is so sweet, that if you do get lucky, you win a whole lot more than you would in a casino.

And re: this story with the scrathcers, can anybody deny the luck factor on this one?
