Lottery jackpot hunters will have a big target this coming Tuesday night, when a $252 million jackpot is up from grabs in the multi-state Mega Millions lottery game.
It is the largest Mega Millions jackpot since Feb. 22, 2008, when the top prize swelled to $270 million. One ticket sold in Georgia won that prize.
The huge pot came about after no tickets won last night's $207 million jackpot drawing. On Tuesday, players will attempt to match all five numbers plus the Mega Ball number to win the top prize.
There were 24 second-prize winners from Friday night's drawing: 4 from California, 3 from Georgia, 2 from Michigan, 6 from New Jersey, 3 from New York, 2 from Ohio, 2 from Texas, and 2 from Virginia.
Each second prize ticket matched all five lotto numbers but not the Mega Ball number to win $250,000, except for the four California winners, who will get $154,178 each.
Unlike the other eleven Mega Millions states, California has pari-mutuel payouts at every prize level, so winners are paid an amount based on ticket sales and number of winners. Sometimes that means California winners win much larger prizes than the other eleven states, and sometimes — like last night, when there are several winners — it means the prize will be smaller.
Also, 88 players matched four of the five lotto numbers, plus the Mega Ball number. Those tickets are each worth $10,000, except for 8 California tickets, which are worth $9,893 each.
The winning numbers from Friday night's Mega Millions drawing were: 9, 38, 44, 48, and 49, with a Mega Ball number of 13.
The Texas Megaplier was 4.

Thats a good plan.....those areas always win at least the 250,000 dollar prize and Queens recently won a MM jackpot....if I lived there I would do the same ....I live in a county in NY.....that has never one a 250k or jackpot.....I still play though......one day it could come to my county

the funny thing is that i bought 55.00 worth of powerball tickets in TN and i did not get one number out of every one of them.... God is saving my luck for the "Mega Win"

When I ran a pool, I would make up slips with all the MBs or PB's so we were at least guaranteed $2 or $3.....

With its jackpot at $207M, MegaMillions had enough people excited about winning to make it a news story. Friday, the local TV stations had stories of people buying tickets and dreaming of being a millionaire. Usually when this happens people who don't normally play or follow the lotteries will start buying tickets so I expect there will be a big jump in ticket sales for Tuesday drawing making it more likely someone will win.
LOL don't think anyone wants to spend $39 and get $3. I think most players are targeting the top prize or at least a second one (which by the way doesn't require hitting mega number).

I think that it's Illinois turn. But the player will have crossed from Wisconsin. And when he wins, he's taking his cash to Wyoming where he won't pay any more state taxes....

I don't know about that, GA won three last year (if I remember correctly) like Michigan did, might be a good while before there's a winner from there or MI again. Ohio is assured to have several more in the mean time.

I remember the Powerball Jackpot being won by someone from Ohio that traveled to Indiana to get their ticket or tickets.
So I bought my tickets for MM on my way thru Ohio while traveling to Indiana.
