I would diversify quiet a bit between multiple banks, mutual funds, stocks and bonds(when they pick up to a respectable level). There would be many other things i would do with the money...its a long list.

All of the above. I would spread it out everywhere really. I would have some in a ziploc hidden in fish tanks, my toilet...anywhere...just in-case.

You can only trust financial institutions so much...having 10K hidden here and there would make me happy. LOL

Hmmmm. I'd do the right business thing and properly invest in mortgages, stocks, and bonds for sure. However, with that kind of money to work with, I'd also be a MAJOR player with Pick 4!!! My weekly profits would hit the moon!!!! Can't give up the small games...the money's too easy to make.

I can't believe nobody said CDARs!  I know that's basically the same as multiple banks but still it's just easier that way.

as a side note...for 2 million i wouldn't even quit my job.  That's really not that much in this day and age.

                    What's a CDAR?

2 million is enough to live off of if you invest it wisely and live a modest lifestyle.

I had this thing of wanting to live like a rock star...so $2,000,000 would be gone in a few days. LOL

Now I want just to live a quiet modest life and have a family...so $2,000,000 would be good enough...if invested wisely and I don't do anything crazy.

I might spend a week of hedonistic fun...if I ain't broke after that...then stick to the plan of nice modest house under $200k, personal vehicle under $25k and a family vehicle under $30k...put some money back for special events & things(wedding-honeymoon for example) then have the rest tied up in investments and banks.

I just want to live a nice quiet life really.

At this point, what I'd do is get rid of all my debts, my house, my car, and since my wife's car has started to nickel and dime us, we'd buy her a new car.  There are also some things we'd like to do to the house, like a new roof, privacy fence, and some other repairs.

The rest would go into banks, mutual funds, and hopefully have enough to travel and not have to work and pursue my hobbies.  That's what I would do now.

However, if I won a few years later, my priorities might be different.
