Thanks all!  I appreciate your advice and support.   The secondary prize was $194.00, but I matched a couple of numbers in another set, bringing the amount I won up to $197.00.  I think the second prize was around $320.00 something when the jackpot reached a million.   I agree, the secondary prize should be more.  And it is true, now I have more money to play with...I was down to about my last $7.00 in my lottery fund when I won this.  The next time the jackpot goes up, I'll be able to play and not feel guilty because to quote Gail Howard, I'm playing with their money, lol.

I'll take those near misses every day of the week and let them pay for the next tickets that might get me the big win.

Those near misses are way more satisfying than total misses to me.

I'm sure this topic has been posted before, but I am fairly new to the forums and just wanted some advice.  Saturday night, I hit 4 out of 5 on Carolina Cash 5.  I was shocked to win anything, because aside from a bit in the casino, I've never won much gambling.  So I am happy and grateful...a $197.00 return on $6.00 worth of tickets.  But I still keep thinking about how close I was to $700,000.00.  (If I'd only chosen the 33 instead of the 37....)  I'm sure those of you that play the lottery often must face this more frequently.  Does it bother you?  It's not bothering me a lot, but enough to post this, a small glimpse of what might have been.  Still, I don't want to seem like I'm feeling sorry for myself, because winning a secondary prize is fantastic to me.

This dilemma is more frequent than you might think. It's happened to me with the Florida Fantasy 5.

I was happy that i won 720 bucks, but at the same time i was off by one...I know.....That feeling.

But one thing I try to spread as far as messages is that bad things can happen with the same odds as the good things that can happen.

Let's cherish and respect the good moments now. I think the word "NOW" is the key word.

Wildspecks, my game is Pick4 and pick3 not much Lotto or mega hardly at all, but when I miss it by one in the Pick4; I run to my work out sheet to see where I turned left when I should have gone straight! and I make my corrections just in case the thread of numbers come back that way again! and then I keep it moving.

In your case  all I can tell you is don't beat yourself up; remember when you leave earth and you shoot for the moon and you fall on a star, that still leaves you closer to the moon!

jrosina has the right idea here!!!!

There's ALWAYS gonna be near misses, even when you don't win.

LOL how many of us have had almost every number in a line off by one?

Don't let a near miss get you down because it happens alot in the lottery.

1st of all-Congratulations on your sudden winDance--it is $197.00 more than you had the day before and consider it a blessing...next time it will happen and just listen to your inner-feelings because certain numbers have a way of popping up in our lives in a very pecuilar way.  Wink

Thank you all for your kind responses.   You've made me feel better.  I am very happy to have won money to continue to play, it's a blesisng.  The way that I play, that $197.00 will last me quite a while.  And hopefully it will lead to bigger wins.  Smiley

That near miss (small win) money seems to be lucky for me. Whenever I turn around and put it on something else I seem to keep the process going with the small wins. Lately I've even been hitting on scratchers with it. One of these days...

                      Keep the ball rolling, wildspecks.

The nearest miss I had was 3+0. If I got 5+0 I would not take it well because I would probably not get that close again.
