Just curious if there are any die -hard (or fans) of Craps?

I absolutely love the game, though I have only played in a casino a handful of times.

I actually practice shooting dice though and hope to make it to one again soon.

There are truly hot table and cold tables. I play the don't pass line a lot, you have to find a "cold" table. it is the only game in a casino where you can bet WITH the house, of course playing the don't pass has less of a pay out, but mathematically, that 7 is going to roll more than any other number.

So true. THe key is, like you said, it should be a cold table. Try it on a hot table and you will get some strange looks from the rest of the players but also lose a lot of money quickly.

I love these types of stories!

You will hear some people say "dont bet those hardway bets (such as hard 8, hard 10, etc)" or "dont bet the field bets, they are sucker bets (such as the 2,3,4,9,10,11,12)" yet in a heartbeat someone will begin playing and score mad cash on these bets.

A couple guys walked up to the NYNY casino in Vegas last Feb and did very well on just that --hardways and field bets.

Personally I usually start with 6, 8, pass line and odds and branch out from there if I start to do well.

The key with craps is, with a bit of practice (or not much needed at all, just some education on it), YOU can control the outcome of the game by how you toss the dice. And to get at a table with one or more good rollers, OMG you can BANK.

3 times (out of 4) I have scored soooo much more at the craps table than I have at any lottery, scratch-off, pick X game, etc!

Oh if you guys had been parlaying those hard 8's! A "thousand dollar dollar" is  three parlays off of a dollar hard six or eight. (Start with $1 and $1,000 and down).

                taxijohn,

"I play the don't pass line a lot, you have to find a "cold" table. itis the only game in a casino where you can bet WITH the house,...."

You're not betting "with the house". That's a myth. The house isn't just "betting against the shooter", the house is booking the Don't action, too.

                Stick call in Vegas:

                "Custer was a Don't bettor"

                Scared

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

                Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

                      YES!!!

Craps is one of my two favorite casino games, and is the one I almost always make money at.

The reason most people lose at craps is because they use the "sucker bets" in the middle of the table.

The best thing is when you can learn enough about the game and how to wager correctly that you can graduate to betting "against" the roller.  I have attained some huge wins this way when a seven pops up, and I have bets on every number.  Everyone else at the table is grumbling about the seven coming up, while the dealer takes 2 minutes to pile up all my chips.

                        you are exactly right sir.

But i must say, i have very rarely bet on the dont pass. I have done better on the pass line and mostly the inside numbers, but it all depends on the table.

My question to you is, when you bet dont pass, how do you bet on the inside numbers -- are you placing your bets, laying your bets, or using 'come' bets,?

I think I will have the opportunity to play craps next weekend so I am stoked!

When you bet "don't pass", you simply continue to lay come bets on each roll, and then each time a new number is rolled (and your come bet is placed), you immediately lay a maximum odds bet on top of that, and in the same motion lay a new come bet.  Continue doing that until you eventually have odds bets on each number (if all goes well, of course).

It's not like you'll get a nice placement of odds bets on every number each time, but when it does happen -- and then when the roller hits a 7 on the next roll and you get paid off on each bet, you never forget that feeling of a "jackpot" payoff.

Another bet I like is the big red, or 7 in a come out.  I also hop bets, like when a 5 is rolled, I hop a 9 and visa versa. I also watch the stick man and dice rolling off the table, one time a dealer blew his nose and this older fellow next to me said "sh*t" take me off on all bets, and he put $50 on any 7, sure enough, 7 rolled.

And yes, I have seen people control the dice. you will see them closest to the stick man (or stick person to be politically correct) and turn the dice a certain way, the same time every roll and throw underhand, ever so gently, otherwise you get talked to by the pit boss to "hit the back wall".

90% of the time my wife walks up and I'm roling, I "7 out".... I tell her that She's lucky that there are laws that protect her..lol Blue Angel

Anyone ever see that older guy at Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods, this guy plays with  $1,000 chips, makes you want to throw up to watch your years salary being played. And then he scoots away on one of those scooter thing with $30,000 to $50,000 worth of chips after cashing in and getting paper credit.

This is pretty much what I do for the pass line, starting with 6 and 8 usually. If the point is either one of those I will usually go to 5 or 9, depending on how the table is (hot or cold).

Odds are *key* and I play the behind the pass line odds, as the house has no advantage on these and it's free money.

Sometimes if I am hitting points and I am up, I will bet a little on the hardways. For instance, if point is 8 or 10, I might put a $5 on the hard 8 or hard 10. That way if my point hits I am paid out on that hardway *and* the point. This is REALLY sweet if it is field bet as well, such as 4 or 10.

But I think I will experiment with the 'dark side' a little more the next time I am at a casino...I've already found a much better app on my iphone to play around with it. I appreciate the info!

taxijohn: you are dead on about dice control/dice influencing. With a bit of practice (or none really -- i employed this as soon as I learned about it last year in Vegas and it worked quite well...had rolls of over 25 and people tipping me and such) it can pay off. It's worth a shot either way...simply set the dice a certain way and toss the dice the same way with minimum force and you can see a difference, even if only an extra few rolls, as that can lead to more $$$.

Not sure what you mean about watching the stick man though. Are you talking about 'past posting' or something, i.e. placing a bet on the table after it is rolled, or do you mean if a table is going good and something crazy happens so the person turns off all bets and places a 7, figuring it is coming next?

I think it's just the way I am reading it...

I sure hear a lot about Mohegan Sun. It is certainly on my list of places to visit once I hit a decent lottery payout :)
