The gift lottery tickets you forgot to give have morphed into a big win, and no one but you knows you bought them to be a gift for your friend.    What would you do with the winnings?

Keep it. Don't mention it. Maybe take the friend out to dinner. LOL

[add] A lottery ticket is a horrible gift to give anyway...just buy them something nice they like it will mean more.

Great post and question Bob. Tough one.

I'm a big believer in "To thine own self be true" but there are some convoluted circumstances here.

One, if you didn't tell anyone anything or promise anyone anything then you don't owe anybody anything. If your conscience is ok with that, then so be it.

Two, if you're unattached and unencumbered, you can give what you want and it's nobody's business but your own.

But three, if you have a family... hooo boy! I don't wanna be around when you tell your wife and kids that you just hit the jackpot and you're going to give it your old friend Knuckles.

In that case it might be better to go with the 8X10 Glossy. You should probably throw in a wallet size too.

Well quite simply you tell your friend you have a gift for them but, you tell them you feel it's wrong to regift so your going out to buy a brand new gift for them.

You wouldn't have this dilemma if you didn't buy a Lottery Ticket as a Gift!

Friends come and go: This one must be gone: Otherwise you would have given the gift instead of forgetting to!

Enjoy the big Win: Make a new friend!

Buy 5 more tickets put them with the winner in a hat and have your friend pick one out of the hat..If he get's the winner so be it and if not you keep it..Maybe the one he picks will be another winner just don't look to see if one of the other 5 are winners..

I voted 50,50 but first i would test his friendship,

like maybe he has a real hot wife, see if he would share,

but then maybe his hot wife has a bad laugh so then it would be like family guy,

hot woman with a bad laugh, so then i would just give him his 50 percent

If the OP is not talking about scratchers and it is about numbers games, particularlry jackpot games, this is yet another reason to spend another $1 and play the same set of numbers for yourself.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any.

                      Lep

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

I agree, 'Toss. If I simply forget to present the ticket and it hits, then technically, it's the bearer's money. However, from a moral perspective, I'd tell the person in question what's happened in its' entirety. Just as I'm a decent friend for even coming forth truthfully, they should oblige and offer to split it with me. Not so much that I'm looking for that but, it's on the premise of being loyal about the whole deal which they should respect.

Hopefully they'd think, "Wow, he could've just kept this hush-hush and I'd never know." This is what a reasonable person would think...in my opinion. I'd hate to be dishonest about the deal and find out that my friend lost his job, house, etc....then, I'd simply be on a GUILT TRIP when I come to help.

                        Good Poll, Bob...very good.

Decide how much of a gift you would normally give this friend, any other time - then do it.   No more, no less.
