Because I just have awful luck, I bought my three tickets and not a single number matched on any (as usual).

How many tickets do you think people in New York buy on average per person?  I'd say most people in my state buy about $5.  Most I've ever seen was when I was going through Indiana one time when MM was around $270,000,000.  I bought my 3 tickets at a c-store, but a guy in line before me bought $400 worth in $20's.  He really held up the line there for sure!

Maybe you could get a job at a casino as a "cooler".

They pay you to go sit next to people who are winning too much and give them bad luck.

I play in NY- it's a freakin' huge State with a ton or retailers selling tickets. The winners are all over the place- hours and hours of a drive from where I play. The same is true with most states. The one nice part of having not-too-infrequent winners in NY is my hopes of winning last longer when I hear there was a NY winner- and then I check my tickets and experience the same level of disappointment as nearly every other player everywhere. Dollar and a dream; got to be in it to win it; and all that jazz.

OP, I have been seeing the same trend and makes me upset...the very reason I have come to this forum to see if it was just me or other feel the same way.  NY wont the big $319 MM and they just won the next one which was $72 million.  Very suspicious...

To my way of thinking, every state that contributes 30% of their local sales to the jackpots of MM and PB has a vested interest in seeing that its players have an equal chance at winning those jackpots so the drawing results are probably more scrutinized than local lotteries.  After all when that money leave a state it also lose a chance to tax it.

I don't think it's because they sell more tickets really.  Have you all noticed this state wins more than any of the others.

I think I'm going to have someone in NY buy tickets for me & mail them to me.  I'll almost be guarateed to win (at least something)!

Go do some actual research before making silly claims.

Just to let you know that after New York won the $72 Million Mega Millions Jackpot on Friday April 15, 2011, someone in Whittier, California won a $11 Million California Super Lotto Plus Jackpot! New York won two consecutive Mega Millions Jackpots within 3 weeks of each other. By the way, both Mega Millions and California Super Lotto Plus Jackpots sold their jackpots in back to back days for their 5th time with the last time occurring on November 9 and 10, 2010. What do you think about my comment?

I think it was fine. Everything was spelled right and properly punctuated.

You can't ask for more than that these days.

Why don't you (also) go research it before you attempt to backup unfounded claims?

Winners' locations go in cycles, you will notice it moves around the country quite often, and of course the more densely populated areas have a SLIGHT edge in more overall winners, but nowhere near enough to fire up a 'conspiracy theory', and absolutely not in the Jackpot itself.

I would suggest checking this out, and you will see how many 'winners' come from which states, and it is no coincidence that more winners come from states where there are more TICKETS SOLD.

                    http://www.powerball.com/powerball/pb_totalwinners.asp

As far as the State that sold the PB jackpot winning ticket, here they are, in descending order, going back a few years:

IN FL NY NY NJ NC AR KY OK KS WI FL SC IN PA PA NM PA OK LA SC MN OK NM NH SC WI OR AZ MO MO NE IA MO OR.

Sorry, no, there is nothing to see here, move on folks, just work on your game and don't think about conspiracies, they aren't happening.

You seem a little high strung buddy.  I wasn't going to attempt to backup unfounded claims, so, no idea where you came up with that idea.  Anyway, this is a forum after all and discussions are part of it.  If you don't like what's beeing said then just don't pay any attention to it.  If others like me come here to talk, vent or whatever then let them instead of calling them out on something you think might be going on.

All I did was prove nothing smells funny, that's all.

One person makes a claim, another person agrees with it, and it (the theory) is just flat unfounded.

I know you did not make the original claim, but to back up someone without checking into it?

                          Was I 'calling anyone out'?

That depends on who you ask, I feel all I did was set the record straight - NY is not 'always' winning the Jackpot, and if that is calling someone out, then so be it.
