Winning Lotto ticket survives washing machine

A four-week-old Lotto ticket survived a trip through the washing machine to net $250,000 for its Christchurch, New Zealand, owner.

The ticket bought at Pak'n'Save in Moorhouse for the July 9 Lotto draw shared the First Division prize with tickets bought in Auckland, Waitakere and Hastings.

The winner, who wants to stay anonymous, said he found the ticket last weekend after he washed an old pair of jeans.

"I went through the wet pockets and realised I had washed a Lotto ticket in the jeans.

"I figured it wouldn't be worth anything but I was heading to Countdown to buy my tea and thought I'd check it anyway.

"It wouldn't read in the self check scanner so I took it to the counter and the Lotto lady told me I had won $250,000,"

The winner says he's just been 'getting by' in the earthquake devastated city since February.

"I couldn't even remember where or when I had bought the ticket and I'm so glad it survived the washing machine."

Thanks to myturn for the tip.

I don't get too involved in wimmins work but uh...

Isn't it customary to check the pockets before you wash the clothes?

This guy talks about going through the wet pockets like it was a routine thing to do or something.

I sometimes write songs. A song that I made up in 2009 was a list of things that should not go in lottery machines. The song starts off with the obvious, but then lists things that are more absurd (e.g. your sweaty next-door neighbor). One of the lines is this:

"Don't throw a winning lotto ticket in with the wash."

However, I am very glad that the lottery ticket survived the wash.

I'd love to see the lyrics if you wouldn't mind posting them.

I bet everyone else would too.

Wise choice, all lottery players should have the same option!

LOL, good eye, dk!

Some of that stuff was hysterical.

I think Fawlty Towers was probably my favorite though.

double dose of luck there.
One dose for the win;
another for the ticket not getting destroyed in the wash
I wonder what the odds are of a ticket surviving a washing machine?

You're going to put tiggs in the washing machine?

I don't think he'll hold up very well.

He's really old.

I once washed $15.00 worth of tickets in a pair of old jeans and go nothing back but fuzz.  The paper

MO lottery uses would not stand up to much more than a rain drop so this guy beat the odds twice.  I

think ridge's suspicions are founded because how often do you check the pockets after washing.

The Twilight Zone has always been a favorite of mine.

one of my favs too,if lotterys were as popular when he was alive and an active writer as they are now, you could bet there would be some lottery stories in twilight zone, after all many were about, chance & what if. i remember the one about the camera that took pics.of the future, and they used (misused) it at the racetrack to win, imagine a TZ about  a video that has the next big draw.
